I liked the following little snippet from here: www.cumberbatchforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=6&p=752#p752A year after I read the scripts, the right constellation of stars came together to satisfy the broadcasters and we suddenly found ourselves hurtling headlong into production. We had a small window of opportunity with Rebecca and Benedict and needed to start shooting a key episode centred on the 24 hours around Midsummers’ Day before the end of September, while there were still leaves on the trees and the hope of sunshine.
What I missed most perhaps was the opportunity that rehearsal brings to define the tonal quality of the piece and refine timing, particularly around comedy. There is a key scene in episode one where Benedict’s character visits the home of a mad clergyman suffering from Tourette’s. Tom’s writing veers brilliantly between farce and deep emotional undercurrents and it was crucial to keep it feeling real. But with Rufus Sewell confirmed only a fortnight before filming and the likes of Stephen and Miranda Richardson busy with other commitments, we could not rehearse until that morning. I was glad it wasn’t my first job.
Tourette's? Is Rufus a swearing vicar?

Tourette's? Is Rufus a swearing vicar? An, erm, interesting vicar, to be sure ;D I'm very excited to see what Tom Stoppard made of the book's Duchemin! germanlady: it won't be much of a comfort to you, but I'm not sure if I can watch either I'm certainly going to miss everything but the first episode because we're going away on holiday next weekend.

Now that PE is about to air, I'm going to move this over to "Work of..." and lock it, then start a new thread for reviews and discussion. (This thread's got rather long!

Here's an excellent, positive review for Parade's End, which calls it "a television masterpiece". It's quite long, so I'm not going to copy the whole thing, but here's the bit we care about. ;D "Parade's End" is also blessed with a rich array of secondary characters, many of whom are delightfully post-Dickensian, such as the mad Rev. Duchemin (Rufus Sewell, "Pillars of the Earth"), who harbors a religious belief that women's undergarments are too confining. This review carries SPOILERS, including one about the Duchemins, if you haven't seen it yet. www.sfgate.com/tv/article/Parade-s-End-review-Rewarding-4294085.php#page-1
