Oh Nell, sounds like you had a great time - so happy for you. What did your husband say when you passed on Rufus' greeting?

How wonderful for all of you who got to go to the performance. And how lucky the rest of us are that you are so generous in the sharing both of photos and impressions. Personally, I received my copy of "Hotel Noir" Friday night, and I played it through once, loving every moment, but then had to rush to catch a late night train to Chicago, where I've been ever since. Can't wait to get back on play it over and over. And can't wait to read (and see) anything else related to the play. And those of us who will never have a chance to see it won't mind spoilers at all, if one of our wonderful administrators can work this out for us in a new thread or something.

Well, I think there must be a way to speak about the play and the performances more freely - details aren't spoilers to those who can't go. Please. I am so curious. I think a spoiler thread would be a good idea. But then we're going to end up with Rooftopper reviews in two places and I think they're best in one place - and that's why I asked at the start for spoilers to be clearly indicated. Great write-up, Nell - I think we were texting twice as long as the play lasted! Glad you enjoyed it, too, Robela.

Thanks for your lovely account, Nell! GE2, I'm OK with spoilers being marked clearly. I just hope I'll manage to keep my eyes off them until I've seen the play.

In my haste and excitement in my previous post I forgot to mention that as well as meeting the lovely Rooftop ladies, LTM, Jameolivej and Nell, I also met the lovely German Lady. We had a lovely drink in the bar and it was so nice to meet her. We were all excitedly talking about LTM's chance and fortunate meeting with Rufus outside the theatre earlier in the day and were happily anticipating watching his marvellous performance in the play. What a lovely evening it turned out to be.

Good morning everyone! Have to say that the play was complicated, intricate and extremely intriguing. Can't say any more, don't want to spoil it for anyone, but certainly an ongoing subject of discussion. Fantastic, thoroughly enjoyed it and Rufus was amazing. And 'yes' Nell's description was very apt. "Fabulous! Shades of Albert, albeit on speed and with more of a sense of humour."I went to the play with my son's girlfriend. When we got into London we decided to walk over to the Harold Pinter Theatre on our way over to the restaurant that we had booked. We went into the theatre foyer to see if the show programmes were available. Then we walked round the side of the building to see where the stage door was located. We hoped (or should I say, I hoped) to get a photo of Rufus after the show. Anyway, we were just walking back down the road, I had my head turned and was chatting to Sophie.....I turned to look forward and there was Rufus striding towards us... Had a brief chat with him, asked him if he was nervous about the first night. He seemed very relaxed, but said he felt nervous, but was really looking forward to it. Got a quick photo and off we went. Also managed to see him briefly after the show outside the theatre (along with other people, who's stories I am sure you will hear before long)....Rufus was so kind and charming to everyone and seemed thrilled at the feedback he was getting regarding the play and his performance. I'd call it "serendipity"! Thank you LTM, really wonderful pic, he looks very relaxed and his smile is Do you know if there is the book of the play, like that of R'n'R? I'd prefer to read it before, because I'm sure I couldn't get the speedy talk.

Dreamer, the book is available at amazon for a reasonable price. (No edition with Rufus on the cover, though.)

Thank you Kate, is it right the play? I mean, the lines? Thank you Nell, and, confess, you did the unskilled on purpose to make Roof help you!

I also met the lovely German Lady. We had a lovely drink in the bar and it was no nice to meet her. LOL ! No nice to meet me... But it was definitely my pleasure. Always interesting to meet fellow Rufus admirers. Thank you for your company. The play was intense and leaves a lot room for interpretation. Enjoyed the experience very much. Simply amazing how fast Rufus could switch through all these emotions. Fascinating.

Thanks ladies for all your lovely comments regarding our accounts of Saturday evening at the play. Lovely to share it with you all and only wish that you all could go. I think I'm now in that state of thinking " did that really happen?"I could not believe that I was sitting there actually looking at Rufus, not wanting to take my eyes off him, I had to live every moment. Think like others Iwill read the play before I go again later in the run, it is very deep. Just have to watch his wonderful performance again.
