Lovely weekend to you all! Lots of birthdays amongst my friends and relatives this month! Mum was 85 yesterday, so we went for a Salzburg day trip. Had nice weather, and everything was beautiful! Pity Photobucket got these signs on the pics/some smileys, and now even shows them blurred!

Boy - it feels like and it has been FOREVER since I've been here. It's been a bit interesting around here and I've been kept jumping. Y'all might remember I posted in March that my boss had demoted me? Well, one thing I did negotiate was that I would keep my role (and my salary!) until the new person was hired. Well, guess what? It seems I'm not as easy to replace as he thought.
I'm not bragging, but the fact is that I am somewhat prominent in my field. I write, I present, he%% I've been around a long time. People know me and, more importantly, know I'm not a flaming idiot. So the first assumption was that I was retiring. When people realized I wasn't and that I was demoted they were shocked. It affected the applicant pool, we didn't have a ton of applications for what is a really fantastic job. (And I should know it's fantastic since, hey, it's my job). Two of the three people who interviewed and were offered the job turned it down. My boss then got on the phone and talked someone into applying. She came, interviewed, and the next day called to withdraw her application. Boss tells everyone she gave "family issues that unexpectedly arose as the reason) Unbeknownst to him, she called one of my colleagues here (they had worked together in the past) to say the reason she pulled out was because she couldn't figure out what boss was looking for.
Boss has now abandoned the search. So, I get to keep my job for the foreseeable future. The bad thing though is that he's not filling the empty slot at all so we are down a person. Now, I took over most of that person's job when he left, so I'm doing my job, most of his job, and now, part of someone else's job. Our dean decided, with less than a month to go before school, that 2 of our people weren't "up to snuff" in the classroom and had them pulled from the schedule. My boss actually had the gall to ask me if I would teach 2 sections this fall instead of 1. (Of course he's only teaching 1 section)So for the past two months I've been, as the saying goes, busier than a one-armed paper-hanger! Things are starting to settle down, I've gotten into a rhythm with my classes and I hope to be back here more often.
Oh! And the absolute kicker?? Word has funneled back to us that boss is in the running for a new job at a different place!
Kygal - have to say I'm glad it's photobucket causing your avatar to be all fuzzy and not me. Had my yearly eye appointment last month and was told I had the beginning of cataracts.

Good to see you back Rachel, but sorry to hear about the cataracts! You´re quite young to get one, but as far as I remember it can be treated well. Really crazy story about your job, and I´m glad your boss won´t get someone else so easily! Pity you´re having to do the work of two persons and a half at once! You can only hope he(?) will soon be replaced! I don´t know what you´re doing exactly - are you at a university? Hope you´ll all survive the last day of the work week, and have a nice weekend!

LOL Rachel. I need to figure out what to do about my avatar. I think GE2 set it up for me. Glad its not our eyes! Crazy about your job situation. A hard-working, long-term employee with experience is such an asset. Not sure what your boss was thinking. It is so nice to be respected in your field and by your co-workers. Happy it worked out for you, even though you have more work to do. Maybe he will move on and things will get better.
Have a fantastic weekend everyone!

Kygal, I set my avatar up so long ago I forgot how I did it and where the picture is living! Apparently not Photobucket!
Midoro, yes, I'm at a university law school. And thank you for assuming I'm to young for cataracts. The eye doctor said they are just beginning and nothing to worry about for now.
So, who's going to see the Downton Abbey movie this weekend? I'm looking forward to it, it will be like catching up with an old friend.

I will try to figure it out..lol. I never watched DA. May be the only person in the world that didn't. May have to take my mother. People have liked the movie version.

I enjoyed the movie. The plot was paper-thin, but it wasn't a movie you go to for the plot. Like I said, it was more catching up with old friends you haven't seen for a while. And we got hints as to what would be next in their lives. If the movie does well and I expect it will, I wouldn't be surprised if Julian Fellows doesn't write another.

Some first day of fall. The high today was 91F/33C. Supposed to be the same tomorrow. Oh well, we'll be complaining about the cold soon enough.

Finally getting my head above water at work. Caught up with class work, committee work, and some pesky management issues. The light at the end of the tunnel is no longer an oncoming train. Have a ticket for a free movie so I'm thinking of going to see "Judy" this weekend. I'm not sure how much screen time Rufus is going to have and as I'm not a big Judy Garland fan I was thinking of giving it a miss.

Glad work is going well. I am unsure about seeing Judy in the theater vs waiting for it to come out on DVD or cable. May depend on how much screen time RS has. Imagine it is a small part. The movie looks good though. Let us know if you see it and if it is worth a trip to the theater (I base worth on Rufus screen time).
