I don't watch on a regular basis, I can't get thru Caruso's mumbling, there should be subtitles, I will forward my suggestion to the suits at CBS. I think they've been listening as the scripts have vastly improved.
Mr. Magoo, that's just plain silly.

Maybe if we stole some of these vastly improved scripts from CSI Miami and the directors (and pretty much everything else) from CSI original flavor, and gave them to the actors of Eleventh Hour, along with some bright lighting requisitioned from the CBS sitcoms, we'd have something!
Although I still say Mr Magoo in a crime lab would be fun.

I keep thinking about how unusual it is, that EH has only the two regulars to carry the show. I can't think of any other show that doesn't have a stable of regulars to help maintain viewer interest with the banter and various conflicts and relationships. I wonder if this viewed as a vulnerability for the show by the powers that be, and if it was one of the reasons they cast Rufus (as someone with the ability to do it). Of course, it's to our benefit, as it means more screen time for him. I had not been consciously aware before EH of how much extreme close-up is used on a show like this.
I'm starting to re-watch the episodes on-line. I notice Marley's make-up was heavier in the first episode, and Rufus' hair was left freer.

you know, good observation about the cast. its true that is rarely the case that there are no regular secondary roles.

That is a good point. I think that's one reason that the poor plotting/writing stand out so much. The show is not character-driven in the normal sense, although I think Jacob is an interesting character, so the stories need to be really strong.

I noticed the makeup was a bit heavy in the first episodes way too much foundation it's noticably more natural now, although he sometimes looks like he's wearing lip tint. Maybe it's my tv. There was talk of perhaps bringing in a third character. It would change the dynamic of the show not so sure for the better. If the trend continues with better scripts there might not be a need.
