I just came across this excerpt on Google books from the biography of Rufus's co-star Larry Lamb (I always want to put Larry THE Lamb when I see his name! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toytown ) which is very complimentary to Rufus:

I can't resist thinking of the great scene in Illuminata when Simone is rehearsing the role of the lover in the new play. That is such a good scene and it is fun to see the others, how they are watching her, what faces they are pulling. Poor Simone is struggling but eventually she becomes good and delivers her lines in a "fitting" mood, and then Dominique says in a worried voice, "She is not gonna keep crying during my speech, is she?" He is hilarious. Simone cannot steal the attention of the audience from him!!
