WHat does "spoiler" refer to? Giving away vital details of the plot. If anyone REALLY wants to know, Renata's translation is here: www.geocities.com/rufian_ren/vinyan_blog.html, where there is a further link to the BIG spoiler at the entry for 29 March. However, as Rai pleads, no details/hints/comments about it here, please!

Photo in Du Welz's blog of Emmanuelle Béart on the cover of Studio Magazine (which has an interview and photos inside). Du Welz says: "Here's the cover of the summer issue of the other great cinema magazine. Feverishly, Emmanuelle talks about the filming of Vinyan in a long interview. Not to mention Marcel's beautiful photos. If I were you I wouldn't delay [getting the issue]..." blogs.premiere.fr/vinyanleblog/Renata

Hmmm... I seem to have lost a message... apologies if this turns up twice...
In his latest blurb Du Welz says Vinyan will be shown at the Toronto Fim Festival.
This is not fab news for me as my daughter is involved with a "genre" film fest (www.fantasiafest.com) and she mentioned that they had tried to get Vinyan for the festival this year but were turned down. Now we know why... This basically kills the 'Vinyan in Montréal' hopes since Fantasia only does "first showing in the country" films (they thought they might try next year if it hadn't come over here yet) - pooh! But maybe it will be picked up by a local distributor.
I suppose there is a chance he might go to Toronto, as it's not that big a trip from LA... but since Toronto and Venice are sort of glued together timewise, I know which *I* would pick, given the choice. ;D

Hi all - aplogies for being AWOL on this. For whatever reason my connection was really crap the other evening and I couldn't watch the interviews, but I finally have and here is a really brief jotting of the main points....
Part 1 Du Welz sums up the background of the plot - schematically.
This is the beginning of the second part of the film when they are taking a boat ( to go look for the kid) and where the film goes into the "fantastique" (fantastical, imaginary).
Emmanuelle in her "little dress" with her "little walkman". Shades of "Heart of Darkness".
It was a long shoot because it "wasn't the Mediterranean" and there were tides to contend with. They were also working with a lot of smoke, but not sophisticated (European) created smoke, but smoke created from burning pieces of coconut, which creates a thick smoke but stinks - "everyone stunk like coconut for months, it seemed like".
The night shoot featured two ships, like ghost ships. Emmanuelle is on one looking at the kids on the other. They had to shoot the scenes a zillion times because the boats were only 150 metres apart and there was no depth of field and everyone was exhausted and the kids were dead as they were up till 4 am.
He and Benoit worked a lot in post-production to take away the light sources - i.e. make the scene ghostly, etc. It's an expressionist scene and modestly he compares it to bits of Nosferatu.
Part 2
This is the temple which was built for the main set of the film. (He waxes on about the fabulous Thai guys who built such a fabulous thing.)
It's the temple of the lost children, The trees are fake. It's about 400 metres [not entirely sure I've got the size right]. The couple walks through it and Benoit is suspended above filming them and when they come out the other end he drops down on a pulley and follows them. It's a 2,5 minute sequence.
They were "marinating" in the mud all day. It was a hyper-physical shoot and everyone lost 10 kilos.
Sounds like tons of fun, hahaha. However, it does seem like an amazing film - I hope it blows everyone's socks off.

thanks Renata! I watched both of the interviews and debated whether to put them up on the website. But there seemed to be a great deal of Beart and very little Sewell. Which I confess I found a little amazing since Rufus is so much better in their scenes but it almost seems to be a little crush from du Welz. Thank you again for all of your hard work translating his blog over the last months.
