I wonder if this is one of those films that will hit the festival circuit first before actually being released in theaters?? I'm just wondering how "indie" this one will be? Of the three he has coming out.......this is the one I'm most looking forward to. I know I'll like JA......I love anything historical.......but Vinyan just sounds really interesting.

Imdb still says Vinyan is in pre-production. Does anyone know if the filming is still going on/done? They didn't shut down production did they? Just wondering, as I am really looking forward to seeing this film someday. It sounds like such an interesting role for Rufus, and an intrigueing film in general.

Found this little tidbit about Vinyan in a Bangkok newspaper. Don't quite get the references about the name Frank or Thaksin, but I'm sure they mean something to the Thai bloggers. www.nationmultimedia.com/2007/07/09/entertainment/entertainment_30039885.phpRai What a funny name for a movie character That name - Thaksin, not Frank - has cropped up in another medium. Musician Petch Osathanugrah, whose albums are always unique, has done a role in a unique independent French film, playing a bloke named Thaksin Gao. One busy guy, Petch has just released his latest album, "Let's Talk About Love", and now he's appearing in Fabrice Du Welz's movie "Vinyan" as well. His character in the flick is a tycoon from Phuket (as opposed to Bangkok or Chiang Mai). The film's about a couple who get separated from their child in the tsunami chaos. Their search takes them into dangerous territory on the Burmese border and then into the jungle. The location shoots were all in Krabi, which can be dangerous and junglish if you squint your eyes. Petch had been reluctant to take the role, but the script and the director changed his mind. "It's an art film, and I figured it was something I'd never done before, so I gave it a shot," says the serial dabbler in all the arts. He was late joining the cast, so Petch's name isn't yet among the credits on the Internet Movie Database. He'll get there, though, and take Thaksin's name with him.

Have you ever got Google to auto-translate a webpage? Some of the translations are hilarious, like this: Emmanuelle Béart in Vinyan - (bum) - the French actress Emmanuelle Béart will be one of the principal high-speed motorboats of the thriller Vinyan. And this: The action of this project written by this last and product by the company The Film will proceed in Bangkok, in 2006. It will be question of a despaired search there, that of a couple seeking to make the mourning of their child missing at the time of the tsunami. Their voyage will slip slowly towards the nightmare… The first blow of crank should be given in May in Thailand. BUT this one's okay, and it gives us some more of the plot! Summary express trainThe research despaired by his/her parents of a little boy missing during the tsunami in Thailand. Remained on the spot for six months, the couple is found in a financial dead end and the question of returning arises seriously, the husband persuading his wife to give up their research. But this one believes to see their child on a video turned to Burma, a very fuzzy image which will involve them in a forwarding in the jungle which will turn to the nightmare. Misled by their guide which tries to swindle them, they will be found only and increasingly vulnerable. Ooh, I so want this to be as good as it sounds! Oh, and I found out that filming began 11 June, for 8 weeks - ending just in time for a holiday with Billy before rehearsals for R&R?

Thanks for answering, but it's too bad that's all we seem to know. I hope that the film shoot is going well, that the weather is cooperating, etc, and I especially hope Rufus is taking good care of his health. I know how exhausting live theater can be, and after I read about how much weight he lost with R & R in London, I really hope they scheduled in some adequate recovery time for him before those NY rehearsals start.

GE2 that translation was hilarious! The first blow of crank, huh? If my memory serves me there was some sort of homemade drug here years ago called crank. A precursor to meth- amphetamine maybe? Seriously, the movie does sound very interesting. I can't wait to see it.

Glad to hear Vinyan wrapped. This will be one of the most interesting movies he's ever done, I bet. Rai, did you hear anything about how the shoot went? I.E. was it monstrously hot there, with poisionous water snakes to worry about and the like? Just wondering. After watching the production commentary that went with Tristan and Isolde, I find it interesting...the situations the production crews and actors have to overcome or just plain endure to get a movie made. Some production stories are hilarious, some make you go oooh--that had to be hard to work through, and some make you admire people's creativity and ingenuity.

Rai, did you hear anything about how the shoot went?To do a bit of quoting & paraphrasing: amazing - very very hard - very weird - very special - extraordinary - not warm & fuzzy - lots of blood - very tired... We'll see!! Rai

Thanks for answering back, Rai. "Very, very hard", huh?--I can only imagine how hard shooting a film in a hot , sticky jungle would be, with a lot of action I'm sure, given the "search" plotline. (And here I have been complaining about the 90+ degree heat and drought we've had in MN this summer...geesh what a wiener I can be) Glad to hear his experience was "very special" and "extraordinary", both are terms that I hope will also exemplify the edited Vinyan, and both are terms I would use to describe Rufus himself!
