Do you have to do something special to listen to MP3 format on the computer??? I thought I'd done it before, but I can't get the sample at either link to play! Weird...........or it could just be that I'm rather stupid at these things!

realplayer is my default too.......but when I clicked on the links to just play the sample, it said that an update was needed (I just updated it a week or two ago) and then it would tell me that there was no update available to play it!! Weird! But I tried Windows Media Player and it worked.......so at least I've heard the sample!

I'm having a problem downloading and I wondered if any of you might have a helpful suggestion. Twice I've tried to download and everything seems to go smoothly, except that after finishing I get an error msg. saying the file is corrupt and the download invalid. Am I just too ignorant to know that I need some special software to download a ZIP file? I found other Zip files already on this computer, but they were preloaded as far as I know. I'm at a loss. Should I disarm my security while trying to download?

I had a problem too. My broadband was interrupted twice and when I went to open the files it said they were corrupted. The third time, there was no interruption and the files were extracted OK. So my question would be - are you sure that the download is complete? If you right click on the zip file icon and go to properties, it should be 328 MB. If it is less than that then the whole file hasnt downloaded.
Must admit I was getting very ticked off and rather panicked about trying a third time!

I was looking forward to hearing Rufus read, too, but after reading all the problems everybody's having I'm afraid to even give it a try. Nothing ever works right for me, and I couldn't even get the sample audio to play. I got the same message as Michelle.

I'm not very good at figuring out computer problems and this might just be a coincidence; but I find I can't download the clip of the month when I try to open the file through AOL; however if I copy the link and then leave AOL and go back through Internet Explorer I'm always able to open the link. The other night I did the same thing with the Silk Sounds sample, and it worked. But even if it does work, I have to warn you it's but a brief sampling and only a tease. So I treated myself and purchased it. I haven't gotten too far yet; however I have to tell you to hear Rufus read this classic (which I had never read) is highly entertaining! I was listening to the first book when I drove home from work tonight and when I heard him doing the voices of the two old ladies in the first few chapters, named Mrs. Slipshot and Lady Booby, I could hardly stop smirking. (It was only the strange looks I was getting from the people in the car next to me while I was waiting for the red light to change that made me realize I better curb my enthusiasm!) If you can, definitely purchase it!!

Here's a synopsis of JOSEPH ANDREWS from Dover Publications: After the unfortunate demise of Sir Thomas Booby, Lady Booby begins to pay entirely too much attention to her handsome, innocent young footman, Joseph Andrews. When the virtuous young man refuses her advances, she discharges him, and Joseph--in the company of his old tutor, Parson Adams (one of the great comic figures of literature)--sets out from London to visit his sweeheart, Fanny. Along the way, the two travelers meet with a series of adventures--some hilarious, some heartstopping--in which, through their own innocence and honesty, they expose the hypocrisy and affectation of others.

and about the author: Henry Fielding (1707-1754) began his writing life as an author of plays, but that career was cut short by new censorship laws when he was 30--an event, according the George Bernard Shaw, that robbed England of its greatest dramatist, "with the single exception of Shakespeare," between the Middle Ages and the 19th century. Fielding turned to writing novels with AN APOLOGY FOR THE LIFE OF MRS. SHAMELA ANDREWS, a 1741 parady of PAMELA; OR, VIRTUE REWARDED by Samuel Richardson. JOSEPH ANDREWS, published the following year, started out as another parody of PAMELA (Joseph was Pamela's brother, and Lady Booby was the aunt of the Squire Booby who married Pamela), but soon left that purpose behind. Often regarded as the first realistic novel in English literature, it stands on its own as a masterpiece of sustained irony and social criticism, honestly portraying the manners and customs of early-18th-century England, and at the same time brilliantly satirizing the foibles and vanities of human nature.

After reading your posts, Terri Mac, I have to try to download this, it sounds like such an entertaining story! I like Henry Fielding's "Tom Jones" so much and this sounds like just as much fun!

It really is, so good luck with the download! I got on the site about midnight last night because I was so excited about the audiobook and I just skimmed through all the comments quickly, so I have to apologize because I didn't realize it was the actual purchase of the book everyone was having problems with and not just the sample. I have to admit, I did have the same problem at first. It took a long time to download (about 90 minutes I would say (but I knew it was working because those pages were flying out of the folders and it kept telling me how much time was left). Then after I had it downloaded, I needed help to get it onto iTunes so I called in my husband for help -- after 15 minutes he disappeared because he had no idea where to find the folders that had just been downloaded. (The icon and file vanished as well) I was going to try downloading a second time, but my husband wound up sending in the militia for me--my 15-year-old son. He did a computer search with the word "Fielding" (the author's name) and re-discovered the files. Then when we opened up the folder we were able to copy the files (there are 64 files I believe for all the chapters) onto Itunes without a problem. Hope this might help!!
