Good Tips TM. I do a lot of downloading so I'm not a good one to troubleshoot issues since many of them, like this one, wouldn't be something that would occur to me. Your other on AOL is also good. AOL doesn't support a lot of things so it's best to go in through AOL and use IE or some other software that is more widely used to download or watch streaming video or audio.
Keep speaking up on these things and maybe put them on the board with tech stuff so anyone new can refer back to them. Might even be good to start a thread on Handy Tech info for any newbies. I think it will be great to have an archive of how to's

ANother technical question in a different vein..how do I get a nice Roof pic in my bio window ? easy one first. click on profile when you are logged in and you'll see a place about halfway down the page where you can add an avatar. Just put in the URL to the picture you want to use and say update profile. then you can look at it and see if it's the right shape. If not you can go back in and adjust that. the caveat is that it has to be someplace out on the internet already to use it. You can link to something on the webpage. Lot's of people here do. I do. I don't move the caps around now that they are all in folders so any one of them should work.

Install internet explorer or opera or a foxfire webbrowser. Login through AOL then launch the new webbrowser you've installed and you should have access to everything on the webpage. You might get prompted for a download here or there but everything should work. AOL doesn't support DIVX that's why you're having trouble.

Thanks , Maxx, for the speedy reply. I have INternet Explorer on Windows ME. Don't think AOL is in the system any more. I know I can't run DivX web player on Windows ME, so have Winamp or Windows MEdia Player only.

I know I can't run DivX web player on Windows ME, so have Winamp or Windows MEdia Player only. actually the divx player is embedded in the web browser so it's not a stand alone thing. It's a plugin that plays inside of it. Something like what you get when you do streaming media on a news page. Does ME even support the last version of IE6 that was created? Try it. It will prompt you to download a plugin for Divx. If it's IE6 it might work just fine. If it works you'll get a black screen with a big blue X in the middle of it. If you click once you'll see the controls down in the lower left hand corner and it should be simple from there.

It's IE6 I have installed. I attempted a Divx download but a message said it was incompatible with Windows ME.

THanks anyway, Maxx. Let me know if anything else comes to mind. IN the meantime, I'll content myself with stills and pre-order TOTS on AMazon.ca.I haven't tried downloading a photo to my memberprofile yet, but thanks for the how-to there as well.

I started to plunge in and try to download the audiobook but I read on the technical information that you must have broadband to be able to do so. I have DSL. This may be a dumb question, but will I be able to download it with DSL? I'm rather gun shy about all this downloading stuff and I don't want to get in the middle of it and start having problems I have no idea how to work out.

Thanks, Maxx! I knew that was going to turn out to be a dumb question. I thought I remembered that they were the same, but my husband wanted me to check first -- so I'll blame him! ;D I'll try to download it over the weekend.

I thought I remembered that they were the same, but my husband wanted me to check first -- so I'll blame him! ;D I'll try to download it over the weekend. the only 'dumb questions' are questions someone has asked a thousand times and never bothered to retain. Otherwise all questions are valid. Embrace your inner 5 year old. Why is the grass green? Why is the sky blue? Why? Why? Why? If it weren't for the human thirst for knowledge we'd all be sitting in our rooms wondering if anyone else in the world was interested in Rufus Sewell. The world would be a better place if we all asked more questions...

OK, Maxx, I'm squeezing my 5 yr old ......what do you think Tom Stoppard meant vs.'"Actors are the opposite of people" and how do you think that relates to our sweety Roof? THid may be the most strenuous question I ask all day.
