Yes, but if you have ever seen Ian McShane in Disraeli, 1970's (which just made it to DVD - probably Region 2 - I can't even remember anymore), you can see Ruf considered for the role. There is a similarity, however vague. Some smart casting director someday will cast McShane and Rufus in the same movie playing father and son.

I know exactly what you're saying tink, and there is definitely a strong likeness between Rufe and IS when he was a good deal younger (a lot more than TS, anyway), but what I can't quite get to grips with is how anyone could be dim enough not to realise that Ian McShane would have aged, unless of course they'd been in a coma since 1977. Maybe they think there's a very ravaged-looking portrait in his attic. Puts me in mind of the morons who write to soap characters offering advice, believing their lives to be real.

I just googled Ian Mcshane to see who you guys were talking about. , there finally is an actor Rufus is mistaken for that he actually somewhat resembles. Who knew?!! (apparently Rufus did) Mcshane is still hard at work, I see. He's in HBO's Deadwood, which I think would be a fun gig. Has anyone seen that series? Is it worth renting? I'll bet there will be many fun interviews to read when EL Ruf hits the States pre & during his R & R stint--yippee, I can't wait!

There you go - Ian McShane and Rufus in the Portrait of Dorian Grey - and Stephen King could rewrite it.

Yes, I'd been thinking it for months ..since I discovered Rufus, actually. I do recall Disraeli in Love and IM was gorgeous then. Its the huge eyesockets and heavy lids, dark curly mane, narrow facial planes and angles and even the smile that they share somewhat.IM has become even more interesting as he's aged, I find, with more edge and complexity in his characters, and is compelling in Deadwood though I've seen very little of it.

Hee! I love when he does "Q&A" interviews....he always says something funny.
I have to admit too, I think Rufus does look a bit like (a younger, hotter!) Ian McShane in Helen of Troy, especially.

I'm still hoping they'll do a new series of Lovejoy starring Roof. Like the new Dr Who!

After discovering Rufus in Amazing Grace, and then being struck by the ressemblance, I had to look at all the old IM LOvejoys and Dick Francis Mysteries I could. I think Roof could do both series !

Definitely more like Ian McShane than any others I've seen mentioned but still unique! Did a bit of a double take over this one Now will have to work on a smart response if I ever get to see him to ask for his autograph, just in case he asks who I think he is! Perhaps something along the lines of "well, if you aren't Rufus Sewell, I'm in deep sh*t"

, he really does look like Ian McShane as Disraeli and even resembles the older Ian, too! Do you suppose Rufus will look like I. M. when he's that age? That's sort of creepy, like looking into the future!

But that photo is just too spooky for words! Wonder if Mr McShane ever gets anyone asking him if he's related to Rufus, LOL!

What a great interview. He is just absolutely adorable and amusing. I like this response: "I’m branching out – I play twats as well as baddies these days. " Hee.

Staying on the Ian McShane theme....I just recently realized that "Mr. Tang" from At Sachem Farm/Uncorked is on Deadwood (as "Mr. Wu"), with Ian. Just a little fun fact!

I love the way Rufus always deals honestly and to the point with the media; often with surprising, comical answers!!!
