It was in a pre-order status on Amazon.com for about 3 months.

I've had it on pre-order for months now along with 300! They shipped it last week and should be here anyday now. I've borrowed it from the library at least 10 times and it never gets old as I see something new each time I watch it. It'll be interesting to see the extras - I believe it has a commentary included.

Pattirose, let me know if there is anything in the extras that I might want for the website. I downloaded it from Amazon a while back to get the caps and I saved it to DVD but if Rufus speaks in the extras I'll buy this version.

Will do Maxx! With my snazzy new laptop I could probably do it for you if it's not too difficult and you walk me through it. I have already learnt how to do screencaps - all I need to do is right click while the dvd is playing and it takes a picture. I assume the picture could be emailed then or posted, no?

I saw this Hamlet a while back and then watched it again recently. Although I think Kenneth is a good actor, I wanted to watch this again to see if I liked his performance better the second time (I did). At my first viewing I felt he was showboating almost to the point of overacting such that I was irritated of watching him by the end of the film. ( I just don't like actors that give off a "I know I'm so great" vibe. And this was not the first film that I've got that from Brannagh) On the second viewing I tried to be more objective...and found that I was just slightly more sympathetic to the "tortured" part of his tortured egomaniacal portrayal of Hamlet. Mentally ill egomaniacs I suppose will always come off much bigger than life. So maybe he played it just right.

I'm watching it right now with the commentary and Branagh's love and enthusiasm for the bard really come through. He also does the introduction of the film.
There is no interview with Rufus on disc 1

Just finished the second disc and it has the same featurette that was on the vhs tape, on it there is a very short blurb from Rufus that is about 5 seconds long, if that, where he only says a couple words but he looks especially handsome!
On the commentary Branagh said Rufus's parts were shot in a day and a half due to his availability as he was doing Rats in the Scull at the time.
Excellent adaptation - I'm so thrilled I finally own it and don't have to borrow it from the library anymore.

Has anyone listened to Ken's commentary all the way through yet? Fortinbras' final speech is one of my favourite Rufus moments ever and I'm just wondering what came first, the music or Rufus delivery because it's so in sync. I wonder if Ken had the composer conduct that piece of music to suit Roof's delivery or whether Ken had cues for Rufus to speak the lines...

I have Uke, twice. They never mentioned it. They did say that "they shot Rufus's parts in December(day and a half) and Robin Williams(3 days) in early January, then 8-9 weeks after that the bulk of the fight scene, then a couple weeks after that, Richard Attenborough who came into the fight scene".
Then Ken says "that 4-5 key elements of the last major set piece were shot in completely different places at completely different times and then through the magic of movies put them all together".
During the speech they are commenting that "the music is moving towards the finale and picking up on many musical motifs and themes he's (Pat Doyle) planted across the 4 hours of the film". During the end credits they discuss the aria that Placido is singing and the lyrics etc.

Thanks Patti! I figure the music must have come afterwards it they didn't shoot the scene in sequence. What an endeavor though!

I thought the same thing. I noticed all of Robin Williams later scenes just have him in the frame, must have been difficult to imagine all the other stuff supposedly going on at the same time.
One thing I found interesting is the estate they filmed at belongs to the Duke of Marlborough and they gave him a cameo. He is to Rufus's right as they are riding up to the estate and he looks directly at the camera and almost winks.
