i know this is not the brightest topic so far this year, and i dont want to go over the horror, we have seen quite a lot and we will see much more in the days to come.
but here in quebec, we have an important haitian community, so we are quite in mourning, all of us, at this time.
on my way home from work, i heard a woman on the radio, who is trying to reach anyone over there who would be able to tell her that her loved ones are safe. she cannot even to get a line on the telephone.
she sounded very sad and tormented, as is understandable, but also very calm and grounded in the middle of her grief.
someone asked her what she wished to tell everyone in quebec who could hear her. in her beautiful creole accent, she said:
"at this time, i cannot think straight. could you just ask them to light a candle? perhaps a chain of light around the world will help my soul find the souls of my family."
i thought i would pass the message around. and now i am going to light my candle.

Good idea, Tip.
I've sent a contribution to Doctors Without Borders, but I'll light a candle and say a prayer as well.

on a lighter note... Georges Laraque has been playing for the Montreal Canadien hockey team for 1 1/2 year. he is from haitian origin. georges is known as a "gentle bully". his role is certainly not to score (he had no goals in 58 games), but rather to protect the stars and intimidate the adversary, and he is known to discourage fights rather than encourage them - well, he is huge. yesterday, the Canadien was playing against the Dallas stars. it had been a dry spell for the montreal team. and also they were worried about georges, given the news from his home land. but laraque, at his 59th game, scored his first goal with the Canadien, who won 5 to 3. just a spark from the haitian spirit.

Our prayers are with all of the Haitian people and those who have gone to their country to help. Donations and candle lightings on their way.........
This quote is on our Susan Branch wall calendar . I thought it would be appropriate:
Faith is the bird that feels the light and sings when the dawn is still dark.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the people in Haiti.
Please be aware of all kinds of scam artists that are going to be jamming your email with pleas for donations. I've already received 3. Donate to a reputable charity only.

i think i will go through mum's church. there will be a special collect this sunday. i am not big on religion, but the money will go through caritas, who i believe have been in haiti for a while.
can you believe the people who will take such advantage from these poor ailing people and make money on their broken backs?
humanity makes me sick sometimes. i should concentrate on the immense generosity of most people who are ready to give time, money and goods to help others in need. otherwise i might be sick to my stomach.
i love the poem, spice, i do believe that the good in us will not cease seeing the light.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the people of Haiti, their family and friends. Wonderful to see the world come together and try to help. Disasters of any kind are horrible. It seems lately that natural disasters have hit the poorest of areas that do not have the resources most of us have available.
