Hello, I am a fan and am especially excited about the Pillars of the Earth miniseries. I think that Rufus will be spectacular as Tom, but I was wondering what attracted him to the character of Tom? Anyone know? Thanks.

Hi and welcome. I don't know why he chose this character but as with every character he has played, I'm sure he felt he could make it his. I am looking forward to the Pillars of the earth but as of yet the BBC has picked it up (I don't think they have anyway). Enjoy this forum, you will meet some great ladies here and have some bizarre and interesting conversations. Dippy x x

Welcome!! It's been a while since I read the book but I seem to remember the book describing him as a tall, handsome man. Well, Rufus certainly fits the bill there, doesn't he? At the time I was reading the book, I didn't know who Rufus was, and I was in my "Sean Bean" phase and thought Sean would be good for the part. Now that's all changed!

Hey mousie!!!! TPOTE is being awaited with baited breath around here as you can imagine. Everyone is just hoping that it's picked up where they live! I for one have mixed feelings. I cannot, cannot wait but at the same time i know it's going to be heart wrenchingly sad. I have a feeling the tears will start from the moment i see him!

hello mouse! i dont know what attracted our Green-Eyed-Wonder to TPOTE, but if he had not been, he would have had to be kidnapped and coerced into taking that role, because the very description of tom is screaming "RUFUS! RUFUS!" also, who in their right mind would refuse to be involved in a project of which the excellent Canadian Broadcasting Corporation is a collaborator? (yes, i am canadian, how did you guess?)

Hi mousecatcher! (Love your name, btw!) Welcome to our corner of insanity! I imagine Rufus wanted to play Tom Builder because he's something different than anything else he's played before. That seems to be a big motivation for him according to what he's said in interviews. As others have said, the description of Tom Builder in the book is like the part was written just for him! We'll all keep crossing our fingers that it'll get a great distribution deal here in the States (and elsewhere). I'm hoping for one of the cable channels or PBS so it can be shown without commercial interruption. But I'll take it any way I get get it! Once again, welcome! Pop in to the Games section and join in the silliness. Judy

Welcome, Mousecatcher! I agree with Judy about why Rufus was attracted to the role of Tom Builder, and ALL of us can't wait to see him in TPOTE. Hope you're enjoying looking around the site. And, yes, please do join in the games!! GE2

Funny about casting Sean Bean as a stone mason I once cast him ( in my head of course) as my stone mason grandfather in a book I wrote, I'm from Sheffield too like Sean and during the war lived minutes away from his passion.... Sheffield United FC I just read the first page of POTE saw that Tom had green eyes was tall and handsome.. That was good enough for me! Put the book down cus I thought I'd spoil the excitement Ann

Hello. I think he wanted to begin to move away from the evil eye roles. Anyway I am hoping it gets picked in US. If not I am hoping for a dvd release. This is a great site.
