I have opened an account with facebook for the 2nd time , both times getting as far as my name and D,O.B. and leaving it. My reason for not going any further is I am apprehensive of losing my anonymity.I think that I will not be able to write as I do i.e cheeky and rude ,if I am better known . you see Frannie ( Francesca ) is totally different from Frannie ( Frances) . Francesca can say what she likes ,offend or please whereas Frances is a What do you girls think about Facebook?

Hi Frannie
I thought it was just me.
I quite understand your reluctance when it comes to Facebook. Personally I don't understand why some people are prepared to share everything about themselves in such an open format. I know you are supposed to invite friends etc and maybe it's just me but I don't trust it.
I'm told some people even put stuff like - when they're going on holiday and photo's of their kids on there.
I also like the anonymity of being able to post my thoughts without those that know me scrutinising my comments. I like my privacy.
If you do go with it be careful won't you.

Hmmm. I have kind of mixed feelings about FB. My sister is the one who convinced me to set up an account. A lot of her co-workers were on FB and she signed up. Then she found a whole bunch of friends from college on FB. I went to the same college (two years behind her) so I knew of a lot of them too.
So I signed up and "friended" all of those old college friends. And then it spread to some people I knew in high school (even though I wasn't all that close with most of those people).
I almost never post anything because my day-to-day life is not all that exciting! But I do check in on there every few days to see what other people are doing. I've had to hide several of those old "friends" news feeds so I can't see them because politically we are miles apart and it just irritates me when I have to read their very opinionated posts. Oh, and there is one former (now retired) co-worker, whose feed consists of virtually nothing but reports about her toddler grand-daughter. [insert rolling eyes here!]
Ironically, I enjoy hearing most from my online friends who I've never met in person! I'm "friends" with some other romance novel fans and authors, and of course there are the other Rooftoppers!

I have a Facebook...used to play the dumb games like Farmville and Cafe World but they get old quick...it's good for being able to vent...I think it's quite opposite of losing the ability to say what you want. To quote Sara Sidle "it's easy to wear your heart on your sleeve when you're not staring into the other persons eyes"

(frannie, cute hamster pic, or is that a guinea pig? Is there a difference? LOL!!) I'm not on Facebook or Twitter because I just can't imagine anyone being interested in my boring life! A lot of my friends and family are on FB. They post the usual family stuff that I already know about so I usually don't visit their pages.

DGD!! You're missed around here!
I'm not on Facebook, either. I don't know if it was reported in the US, but at one time, even if you deleted your account, all your personal info, messages, etc, remained as FB claimed it was their "property". There are apparently huge privacy issues with FB, too.
This may all have been rectified, of course, but I'm still not likely to open a account!

Not a g-pig...I have had two of those in my lifetime. Probably a hamster(had one of those also) or mouse..my vote hamster. Frannie I cant imagine you being timid in "real-life". Ha Ha!
I also dont do FB, but both my kids enjoy it. The only online networking I do is here and PH thanks to a certain actor I saw on a certain tv series...now I am a hooked fan of that certain actor!

I've had many a hampster in my lifetime...pretty sure it's a hammy... Guinea Pig..... Hampster Both have no tails...Hamsters have a stub of a tail really and Cavvis (Guinea Pigs) only have a buttocks like you and me. Also Hamsters are def. a rodent, while Guinea Pigs, while techinacally a rodent, make people wonder...They are closer in relation to a rabbit than a rat, so draw your own conclusions I suppose.

Frannie, you are right about the hiding part. Not sure I want certain things about me out there. Its easy to post things without someone really knowing you or seeing you. You seem very nice here so I am sure you are very nice in "real-life" to, so I dont think you have anything to worry about if you do join FB. Even if you think you are timid, you can control it to a point as well. What you want on it and who you let in. People love it but I just really did not want to have to deal with it and keep it up. Not my thing.

I can't say I love Facebook, but I do enjoy keeping in touch with my immediate family and close relatives. Like Judy, I received all kinds of friend requests from former co workers and old aquaintances that I realy don't care to keep up with. I just trimmed my friend list down considerably. If it wasn't for the fact that the relatives I wish to keep in touch with are much younger and are "the facebook generation", I wouldn't be bothered. I love keeping up with the fangirls here and spend more time on this site than any other.
