I love all your suggestions (except for the dancing one - not my cup of cake, don't think Rufus' either) I really haven't thought about much what parts he could play. I'm still too busy with catching up what he has played so far. The only thing I can say right away is to see him on stage. A live performance on stage beats anything else. And I don't care what part he plays (of course it should be the lead)

I'm currently reading Ken Follett's new book, "Fall of Giants". There is a Welsh earl whose description suits Rufus to a T - black hair, strikingly green eyes, chiselled cheekbones, well-built and obviously gorgeous "Micky" in Follet's book "Dangerous Fortune" is described the same way. Not a good role for Rufus though....it was a terribly boring book. Follet must have a thing for curly dark-haired, green-eyed men. Probably just jealous as hell that he isn't! ;D

When I recently read the seventh instalment of Diana Gabaldon's "Jamie & Claire" time-travel saga, it struck me that Rufus would be the perfect Roger MacKenzie - very tall, dark hair, extremely green eyes and fond of singing and music, has some issues from the past. Plus loving dad of two cute and enterprising kids and husband of a headstrong wife. Funnily he has always been one of my favourite characters in the series, long before Rufus came along ...
And if anyone ever made a film on the mystery of Rennes-le-Château - a true story about a French village priest who gets rich under mysterious circumstances and is rumored to be associated with some secret societies and the legendary treasure of the Knights Templar - I'd love to see him in the role of that priest.

This isn't exactly a part, but I think it would be beautiful if sometime down the road of his career, Rufus would narrate a children's show. Something simple along the lines of Postman Pat or Fireman Sam, or even Wolves, Witches, and Giants (Spike Milligan was the narrator of that show and I absolutely loved it as a child). Roof's voice is so soothing and gentle and endearing, I think something like that would be perfect for him.

LOL! The childless among us would have to invent kids as an excuse to buy the DVDs!! Great idea, though.
I'd love it if he voiced a character in a Disney cartoon.

Those suggestions are lovely!
And oh my goodness, yes, I've always thought he should do a voice in a Disney movie!

Girls,I read carefully what you wrote and even if I said myself I'd like him to be the next James Bond...well...I would like him to do something different. Not a spedific character that we all know, not a character that we've read in books about, not something that has limits.
I would like him to play an unknown, special, deep character that will give him the Oscar he deserves. After this career rebirth,I believe that, since he is so intelligent,he would take a different path in acting and rule this hard movies world! Then HE would be the one to AXE things! ;D
Don't you agree?

I'm currently re-reading "Jane Eyre" and I absolutely agree with Judy on this: I'd love to see him play Mr. Rochester in Jane Eyre. Talk about a tortured, brooding, complex (and SEXY!) character. I've got nothing to add to that!

Since Rumantic has become a successful author, I think she needs to write a screenplay staring Rufus Sewell! Until that happens, I would love to see the In Death book series by JD Robb made into film or a series and Rufus play Roarke. I am currently on a mission to read them all as I am hooked!

I don't know whether this should be here or in "Read any good books lately" So I 'll tell you about the wonderful trilogy I have just re-read during an enforced stay in bed recently . "The Heaven Tree ." "The Scarlet Seed" and "The Green Branch" by Edith Pargeter form the trilogy.
Like TPOTE it is about the building of a church but to me this is a far superior work of writing. The 'hero' is very young under twenty, and his 'opponent' is in his forties, Lord Ralf Isambard. To get back to this thread; Isambard is the part I would love to see Rufus play.
Read it and see if you agree with me that this is a part Rufus would play magnificently Not quite good , not quite bad but a toweringly powerful character.

Argh, Frannie, stop reading things I need to read, too! ;D
No, seriously, that does sound great. And I'm very glad to see you back on board!

Welcome back, Frannie! We've missed you. Hadn't come across this thread before, but now it feels really strange that I did. Having gone back to the beginning, I have to agree that Rufus would be wonderful in the role of Jesus. It's a part I've thought about for him before. Would also like to see him as Rhett Butler not — frankly — giving a damn. And I'd watch him in a remake of "The Lion in Winter" as Henry II until the disk had a hole in it. The strange thing is, though, that "the last thing I did" just before I clicked on the thread was to finish a final proofing and OK'ing the printing of a story I wrote for the paper's annual Christmas section. I try to find inspiration for a seasonal story for the cover every year. Sometimes I get the "click" I need and sometimes I don't. This year was a dramatic departure, however, because I've never had a real person in mind as a character in the story before. This year – well, you can probably figure out whom I had in mind. He's never identified by name and I doubt most people reading it in this Tennessee newspaper will have any idea who it is or realize it is based on an actual person, but there are lots of hints dropped for rooftoppers. He's not playing playing the part of Jesus — he's actually cast as an actor who has been chosen to play the role of someone very close to Jesus. As was mentioned earlier on the thread by another writer, it would be an amazing thing to someday see him actually play the part — but I blush even as I write that because it presupposes some exceptional work for him to sink his teeth into, and I doubt this qualifies. Nevertheless, the story will be posted on the paper's website Wednesday night and, if anyone is interested, I'll provide the address. It's been hard to let go of the copy. I wanted to keep "writing Rufus" forever. But I've finally turned it over to the guys in the press room and now I'm looking forward to the promises made by other fanfiction writers to show us some new chapters. Hurry up, girls!! And happy Thanksgiving — whatever part of the world you are being grateful in.
