Yay!!! Internet fixed - and guess what - it was the ISP's fault all along - who would've guessed, eh? ? Getting late here though (sorry i had to download and watch TPOTE before i could come here!!!) but will be back tomorrow morning to sort out PMs etc etc - and i might just have a story (or two) to post as well, just to prove that i haven't just slacked off all weekend!!! I need to go and make a little comment about TPOTE before i go to bed though!!! ;D

Have sent my little poem today! Hope it will find you, Numbat.
Quick question - will you somehow let us know when you get this or that card, it's just that if for ex. mine will be lost I'd rather pm it to you again, so it will be included anyway?

He might not appreciate sentiments like:
"Oh Rufus, I just want to radish (ravish) you."
"I radish (relish) any role you play."
"When you blush, your cheeks remind me of radishes."
"The whites of your eyes remind me of white radishes."
I'm sure you can come up with better lines than these, tip! ;D

Okay you ladies will think I am crazy (or maybe already do) but I am so stressed about creating the "perfect" card that I have become paralyzed with fear and even avoided the board for a couple of weeks! I am hoping to work through this mental block and get the card out on Monday/Tuesday so it arrives at your place, Numbat, in plenty of time. Anyone else have trouble composing a message for Ru??

LOL wichi!!! i will try to outdo you!!!!
rugirl: i would not say i am paralysed, but there is a loooooooooooooooooooooooot of thinking, much more than there should be for a fine arts major!!!! but then again, i always freeze when it comes to birthday card wishes.
i think we should take example from our rufus, and aim for simplicity and fun.
(i know, this does not help much.)

I am hoping to work through this mental block and get the card out on Monday/Tuesday so it arrives at your place, Numbat, in plenty of time. Anyone else have trouble composing a message for Ru?? YES! You're not alone, Rugirl! First, I had trouble finding a piece of cardstock that wasn't a sickly, awful color. (I never DID find one, so I've found some very nice coral colored heavy paper and I've doubled it up.) But when I try to think of something to write on this lovely coral-colored paper, my mind goes blank. I think I'll try something that usually helps me get "unstuck" -- I open up a blank word processing document and just start writing. No stopping to think or judge or critique. Just write. Eventually, all of the self-judging garbage gets dumped out and what I really want to say can emerge. That's the plan at least.

Rugirl - I sympathise. I dithered for a while then made up a shortlist and read them to anyone that would listen (or more to the point could not escape). They all think I'm completely mad - but I guess they thought that anyway. I struggled to choose between funny and encouraging. Somehow none of my phrases fitted both. I narrowed it down to 2 (1 of each) then opted for the encouraging one. Many were scrubbed from the list as although they fitted my thoughts well they sounded a bit too gushing. I just kept it really simple and only one sentence. I wrote it after a boozy night and posted it before I could change my mind. Here's the one I didn't use: The only reason you hate your birthday is because people give you odd gifts, scary cards with weird messages in them and because you're getting older. Anyway - Happy Birthday ! (I rationalised that he might not hate his birthday until he got that message )

I'm glad to see - or better read - that I'm not the only one who has an issue with the text of the birthday card. I tried to translate some of the usual German wishes into English, but I'm afraid that does not work......it would probably be "Denglish".... So it will be quite simple and I do really hope that I can make the card tomorrow and post it within the next days - otherwise I'll have a problem to find a convienient time to do it.

I asked my 9 year old daughter for ideas, (eek) and actually wrote down one of her suggestions (double eek) then posted it (triple eek).

Lol, you ladies are terrific! I liked your idea, Nell, about asking for help from your child, but as I have a 5 year old boy, I'd end up with a card with a picture from Toy Story on it! Thanks for the encouragement, I will start writing random thoughts today (isn't that what I do on this board??) and see which works.

Right this very moment I am standing in line at the Post Office getting ready to send my card off to you, Numbat! Of course they only have one person working and there are five people ahead of me. (Insert rolling eyes here.)
