I normally just "lurk" but decided to log in to post a quick reply to dippyponge's "it's got to be easier than child minding" joke. Actually it's about the same. Can't speak specifically to Rufus, but as a former publicist (over 10 years), I used to tell people when they asked me to explain what I did..."part professional baby-sitter, part professional groupie. I hang out with famous people." And while I haven't met or worked with Rufus, I have met and worked with several actors. Most of my work has been in the music industry.
The real job was creating a media plan for the project, setting up interviews, doing photo shoots, etc. But the part of the gig that isn't normally talked about includes everything from playing chauffeur to picking up food/medicine/cigarettes.

Thanks for the welcome. Yeah, it can get a bit weird at times. Most "celebrities" stay at hotels under assumed names, just not quite as out there as the "Notting Hill" film, so you tend to know that info for the client you're working with. A lot of folks also have stage names, although that's not as common as it once was, and you usually have their real name info. As well as personal contact info. Some examples from the Twilight zone files: Was in the production trailer at the studio before we taped that evening's TV show. Paul Newman was putting golf balls into a coffee cup in the hallway, where barely two people could walk at the same time. Just had to wait until he hit the ball down the carpet before moving into the makeup area. Set up a big party once where Ahmet Ertegun, the founder/head of Atlantic Records, was attending. One of the label peeps from his office instructed a specific brand of vodka and other assorted goofiness. Seriously? Cant' fault the guy for being a legend himself and launching legends such as Aretha and Ray, but this was getting into "I only eat blue M&Ms" territory. ;D Another was attending the wedding of a recording artist, where the best man was another A list recording artist. The best man's wife, a well-known actress, was in attendance. Groom was in the business, but not a celebrity. His family members kept trying to take photos of best man/wife couple at the reception. She kept very discretely hiding her face with her hand & hair. They couldn't even have a good time attending a friend's reception being "normal." I don't ever feel sorry for celebs...the ones that keep out of the tabloids, like Rufus, don't go looking for it. This was one time I actually felt sorry for someone. Had a client (singer) do my hair for me after she finishing doing hers, right before she performed a concert.

Quote from Judy's post [By the way, Mr. Sewell, who calls himself a klutz, has also lost two wallets and a small shoulder bag in his seven weeks in New York. "By the end of the day, I'm always one thing short," he said] This reminds me of the story Rufus tells of when he got his first big pay check , he went down to Brighton ( A rather cool "in" place at the time ) and bought himself an Armani suit only to leave it on the train home. He never said if he got it back!! BTW .....IRISH ..... wars have been started over less!!!!!

BTW .....IRISH ..... wars have been started over less!!!!! This made me laugh as my father claims that the Irish are all horse thieves (for the record, my English dad was born well after the potato famine and has Irish ancestry himself!). Could be that Rufus has a bit of Irish blood what with his dad's family coming from Australia. In my dad's book that can only mean one thing... I apologize to numbat and all other antipodeans and any and all Irish for this un-PC conjecture My mom and I were big fans of The Dubliners so we used to torture my dad by playing their music. Not sure if this helped but it was fun! ;D

Welcome tnvol...enjoyed reading about some of your experiences with the rich and famous. We have a friend who is a former professional athelete. He was in our wedding, I was very embarrased about how some people bothered him that day. But will admit I would have to ask for peanut M&Ms for my dressing room if I were famous....haha.
LOL Frannie...I had not heard that one!

Welcome tnvol - congratulations on de-lurking ! Thanks for the interesting stories. While there is absolutely nothing wrong with Irish ancestory. (I am pleased we are clear on that one ;D) It just goes to prove what a fantastic actor Rufus is that the Irish accent he sported in AMONI convinced her he was actually Irish

Quote from Judy's post !! BTW .....IRISH ..... wars have been started over less!!!!! i suppose I had better explain my above comment before there is a war!!!! It is no reflection on the Irish in any way. They are delightful people as well as being near neighbours. the shock horror :oreflex action of my comment is caused by the fact that the lady didn't know the Amazing Mr Sewell is half Australian and half WELSH and he frequently says so. and as far as I know his MUM still lives here.
