This is great stuff you guys. If you've said something you don't want to be immortalized for posterity on the website, sing out because I'm going to put quite a bit of this conversation up. I promise to use your handles and not your real names if I happen to know them. If you want something different let me know.
YAY! it's about the work...

Tim was a really creepy and believable character. This was certainly a very different role for Ruf and I thought he did a magnificent job, even more so considering it was one of his first movies. He always manages, to his credit, to choose these roles where the character makes a strong impression, I honestly don't think I'll ever forget this one! I didn't think it was all that bad and liked it more than 21. They could have edited out that whole hotel, overweight professor part - I thought it was rather silly and ridiculous. I think they put that in there just to lighten up an otherwise very dark disturbing film. The female lead was a better actress than Kensit and not as annoying to watch. The David McCallum scenes were great, but then I've always liked him. It was interesting to see him in a creepy role also.
I'll watch this again today and check out his teeth - I never really noticed them. I was trying to figure out what the heck they did with his hair? It looked really really weird.

I love how we all have different reactions to films! I was just the opposite, pattirose, I liked Twenty-One better than Dirty Weekend! DW to me was creepy and gory and not much of a point to it, other than "Bella wasn't going to take it anymore". I do think Ruf was great, playing the creepy Tim quite to perfection. And after that scene in the park, (I think I have already said this........sorry) I really thought Tim would be a danger to Bella. I didn't see him as an innocent peeping Tim in all this........I think he was very mental and very dangerous. The look on his face when he wakes up, sees Bella and for a tiny nanosecond realizes danger, priceless! Ruf did a fabulous job on that one!
But overall, I'd take Kensit and TW over this one any day! Which just makes for more to talk about! Michelle

I actually like Roof quite a bit in this. I think he's creepy and weaselly with just the right touch of aw, poor fellow. I find it really difficult to be afraid of him even when he's being like this. It's that "big dog" thing again I guess.
I mentioned this on EMS, I was disappointed that he and Bella didn't come to an understanding. It looked like a lovely S&M relationship in the making.
I'd like to see him do something like this again and I'd like to be frightened out of my wits because he was terrifying and yet I was drawn to him. I know he has it in him.

Yeah, it takes a really great actor to make you feel anything other than disgust for a character like this. One of the reasons I really liked Forest Whitaker's performance in "The Last King of Scotland". He actually made me ALMOST like Idi Amin.

Saw this for the first time recently. Would not see it again. Sleazy to say the least, performance overall was quite believable as is anything he's ever done, but very creepy. Kind of reminded me of Hitchcock's Frenzy in it's feel, not subject matter or story line both are different in nature, but both movies made me feel uncomfortable and would not view this film again. Interesting performances all around though.

Oh my god I never thought that I would dislike a Rufus Character (I could even see the soft side in Agamemnon). At the beginning of the Movie I thought (if that was me 'd be over there like a shot) but nooooo!! He is horrid!! Fantastic acting by Mr Sewell (as always) but SO creepy! I couldn't sleep after I'd watched it. The film itself was very weird and actually laughable and the other actors were terrible.

I haven't seen this movie yet, only clips. I am undecided as to whether or not to buy this movie. I must say I am fascinated by Ruf's ability to play such a horrible character. All I've ever read about Rufus indicates his true nature is not at all like the character in this movie. Just shows how talented he is even as a young actor to stretch so far to play this guy. I would love to know what his inpiration was to play this part and what he did to prepare for this part.

Just got Dirty Weekend and watched it last night for the first time. Don't know quite what to make of this film It wasn't totally chilling as i was expecting. In fact in parts I found it quite funny in a Film Noirish sort of way. ( deliberately not from from being bad) When it started I thought it was going to be a " woman's afternoon film " about a poor let down girl . Then Rufus came into it and the uneasiness and creepiness came in but then funniness crept in with Sylvia Syms . Surely this had to be deliberate coming from an actress of her experience. Ian Richardson was both funny and creepy but the psychologist had to be a joke ,he was too OTT fat to be anthing else. David McCallum was very menacing with the undertones of paedophilia and although the scene with the old woman began very nastily ,that too had black humour creeping in till when the serial killer caught up with Bella it was downright farce. His style running from hiding place to hiding place was straight from Scooby-doo,and I couldn't take him seriously. The background music throughout was jaunty and chirpy for such a disturbed theme Re Rufus . I think his looks and youth emphasized Bella 's point that he didn't look like a creep and he sounded so ordinary. His performance was amazing ,right from the beginning , just standing in the window, the menace was there. Of all the creeps and baddies he has played , this has to be the sickest weirdo. No wonder he used to party so much. And I didn't notice his teeth ...will have to have another look .....sometime.
