Ok, I've got to take back some of the nasty things I said about the Golden Globes. We went to see The King's Speech yesterday and it truly deserves the 7 Golden Globe nominations.
Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush were wonderful as the king and his speech therapist Lionel Logue. It was fascinating watching Logue probe the King's background to find the cause of his stammer.
Helena Bonham-Carter was equally impressive as Queen Elizabeth. It was easy to see how the "Queen Mum" became such a beloved figure in England. She was witty, caring, and very, very regal. The scene where Wallis Simpson tries to welcome her to Balmoral Castle is priceless!
It was a great all-around movie, good dialoge, beautiful costumes, wonderful settings.

That one has been on my "I've got to see this!" movie list since I saw the first preview trailer. Glad to hear it's as excellent as it sounds! (I still say nasty things about the Golden Globes, though!)

Hmm yes I must see it too, but I dislike Colin Firth, I'm afraid.... I've never seen Geoffrey Rush in anything, but I have seen Helena Bonham Carter in a few things, and I think that she is excellent... But even though I haven't seen it, with Colin Firth as one of the main actors, I don't think it quite deserves 7 Golden Globe nominations... Haha Judy, so do I... So do I...

Can't wait to see this one too! I do like Colin Firth and thought he was very good in the movie Then She Found Me directed/starring Helen Hunt and other things. Still need to catch A Single Man by Tom Ford.

Rufluvr , have you seen 'And when did you last see your father' Colin Firth and Jim Broadbent. Excellent acting but be warned it's a weepy. Like Rufus , Colin has done some excellent work when he was much younger, which often gets over looked . If you haven't seen them Try>>>> Another Country. A Month in the Country Valmont All done in his middle twenties I would love to know what you thimk

I do like Colin Firth and want to see this. Family voted on seeing Little Fockers on Christmas Eve day instead (much to my dismay).

Had a google alert interview of Colin Firth. Said he had lost some roles to the "likes of Rufus Sewell". Wonder what he is refering to. Seems Colin has done alright in his career path.

Mmmmm, well i have seen it and Colin was excellent, as was Geoffrey Rush. And i mean really excellent. It was just a fascinating story and one which i actually had no idea about. The cinema we were in was packed even though it has been showing for some time - i don't think there's anyone who has seen this and not been impressed by all the cast, but especially by Colin Firth's ability to pull off this difficult role. This movie and Colin Firth do deserve their GG nominations, far and above The Tourist i'm afraid!!!

Well all this talk got me thinking about the Kings Speech again. I've still not got around top seeing it so I won't give you my review ! ;D However I just looked up the viewing times for this week and noticed on Thursday 20th Jan there's a live feed to a Q & A with Colin Farrell at my cinema and various others around the country. Apparently the live feed is to a London cinema. I've searched and I can't find which one though. It's just as well as I can't go to London again this week. However, I did find a pre-view and Q & A with Marc Warren for Mad Dogs at the Princess Anne Bafta theatre in London 28 January. I'm now beating myself up for looking because I can't go to that either. IMHO Mad dogs looks like it could be really good. It's got a great cast. In addition to Marc Warren (so funny) there's Philip Glenister, John Simm and Max Beasley.

Ok so now I've seen it and I can therefore comment. It was quite brilliant IMHO extremely well acted, very impressive performances all round. A great job. I can quite see how it's been nominated for so many awards.
Casting Ramona Marquez as Princess Margaret was very apt too. I have always been impressed with her in Outnumbered. I think Princess Margaret would have been thrilled to see herself being portrayed by a young actress of such great potential. I can see her being quite a rising star in a few years time.
For anyone that hasn't seen this yet I highly recommend it. Great job Colin and the gang !

Although I don't have a lot of respect for the Golden Globes (many of the nominations are purchased - i.e. "the Tourist" plus only 83, yes 83 people are in on the voting) I'm glad the Colin Firth won for "The King's Speech." His performance was excellent.

Last night was Wed . And both M(o)B and I gave up our( not so secret )guilty pleasures ( Him , his clubnight and me, my Rufus night ) to go to see the King's Speech What a marvellous film; We both loved it !! I don't mind confessing there were a few times when I cried. Colin Firth was splendid Among those not given enough credit in a wonderful cast >> Helena Bonham Carter giving the performance of a lifetime as the Queen , catching exactly her friendly loving warmth hiding a backbone of steel.( We Brits miss her still.) Derek Jacobi as the Archbishop so creepily self important and Anthony Andrews in a tiny role as PM Baldwin , a much maligned honourable man. If you haven't seen it I fully recommend it I intend buying the dvd when it comes out.
