It's mostly British, Tinker - the BBC plus funding from other countries.

I was more concerned about the effect of her pheremones on him, poor love!!! She doesn't exactly look like the shy retiring type!

I did not recognize Caterina at first. I "googled" her and then I remembered her from Casino Royale. I don't know enough about her to comment on her acting ability, but she is a beautiful woman. Rufus should enjoy filming the Zen series !!!!

Evergrneyes, most of the bookstores around me don't seem to carry them in stock, but you can order new copies online through amazon, barnes and noble, or borders.
I actually bought decent used copies, fairly cheaply, through amazon and ebay. The books themselves go about $1, then it's usually about $4 for shipping. (I got one book for 1 cent plus shipping.)
Edited to add: I forgot to say thanks for the article, GE2. You're right on top of the media, as usual.

evergrneyes: i too got used copies from amazon for next to nothing + shipping fees. worth every dime.
although i am totally areliozenaholic now - i am well into "cabal" now - the more i read, the less i am comfortable imagining rufus playing aurelio. really weird. but this role being a definite stretch from his previous work, and him wanting to play different characters - which makes so much sense - that makes me even more eager to see him tackle the role.
the characters may be "altered", though, we have seen it happen much too often. english tv has a good track records for me, about my favourite detectives,so i certainly keep faith. after all, they were able to come up with, not one, but two perfect hercule poirots (finney and suchet).
and about that girl playing tania biacis: another great casting coup. so stars are aligning. (somehow, she looks to me like a female rufus... that will be interesting to follow.)

Loving and agreeing with all the comments of the great quality of writing produced by M. Dibdin. I've only read Vendetta so far, and liked it very much for it's humor, intelligence and consciseness. Right away I knew I would enjoy Vendetta when early in the book (spoiler!) Zen reads a news story about a adulterous couple who were murdered by the betrayed husband, and with thoughts of his own loveless state in mind, thinks "I should be so lucky" Hilarious!!! Another fave part was when Zen's finds himself at a loss for a big insight during a moment of apparently impending death, and thus concedes that even death was going to be a "dissapointment". Such clever, self-depracating humor. Can't wait to read Ratking which is waiting for me at the library. For anyone like me for whom it is a rare book that I would read twice, one can easily find Dibdin's novels at the library, you just might have to use the research tool to request it from a cooperating library that trades with your library. The local library had Vendetta, I just had to request that Ratking be sent over from a library in the neighboring county...took maybe 4-5 days only. What can I say, I'm not a super cheapo--but I don't need books sitting around that I won't read again, and I really just like to save my pennies for Rufus dvds, which I know I'll watch many times over, and over, and over... That actress sure does look like a great choice for Tania--provided she can act well of course!

I'm on my third book, Cosi Fan Tutti, a bit slower than the previous two I've read but still fun. I'm enjoyng Dibdin's narrative, an descriptions of Italy. I feel as if I'm there. And yes Ruf is a perfect casting coup. Can't wait for the series. Tip I just recently received the first three books in one volume these will be the the next in line. Got it from Amazon too for $4 + shipping. Not bad. Still can't beat your price.

Wonder if Rufus is reading any of these books to prepare for the role or not. Eighter way he should be great as Zen. I am on my 5th book and already picture him in the part.

ok so i just finished cabal, and with it, the first three zen books.
it is just getting better and better.
clever plotting i had been looking for since i read most of agatha christie's, plus the sort of dark humour that can be summed up by a clever observer of human nature, clever depiction of a society and era that has uncanny resemblances to ours, the cleverest ending i have read in a while...
have i said that michael dibdin was one clever dude too?
aurelio zen is an imperfect but so believable main character who is somewhat a mix between poirot, columbo and clouseau!
so what is not to like, especially since rufus will play him. it is weird that i have more and more trouble picturing him in that role, but, you know. YUM.

You know, tipou, I see Columbo and Connery's 007 in AZ. My first choice to play him might have been someone like Giancarlo Giannini or even, another of my faves,Viggo Mortensen. But I can't wait to see what Rufus does with AZ!

Tipou I can't agree more - just having finished Cabal and started reading Dead Lagoon. I seem to enjoy each book more as I go along. I had wondered if this was because of the locations, having been to Rome and Venice I feel I can identify with the locations - it almost feels as though you are there. It's funny we all seem to see a hint of Columbo in Aurelio, perhaps it's the way he keeps his cards hidden and somehow hides his intelligence.
I have to say though, unlike Tipou the more I read the more I see Rufus playing Aurelio. I really can't imagine anyone else in the role.

I agree with you Nell. I read Ratking first a while ago , so when I read about Rufus doing it I reread it ...did not see Rufus as Aurelio then, but have read Vendetta and Cabal since and I see Rufus with every page now.

We have a co-star!: Flipping through this thread I was astonished to see this photo . At first I thought it is me. Then I realised that of course that Caterina must be about 10 cms taller than me and she is probably 2 a stone pound lighter and perhaps her hair dresser doesn't put streaks in her hair to cover the grey . She has taken off her glasses but apart from these things the resemblance is remarkable. And of course I am much sexier than she is . I am perfectly willing to take over the part of Tania at a moment's notice , should the producers realise what they are missing. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
