hi Rueful, I think if the Americans took a hand at Zen they'd ruin it. For the reasons you mention, too much sex, car chases and of course it would be extremely loud for no apparent reason, just because. I've seen the American version of Girl....Dragon tattoo...I'm probably in the minority here but i absolutely hated it. The characters were changed and there were gaping holes in the story. Read all the books last year then watched the Swedish film versions...highly superior and truer to the novels.Even if Ruf were to continue on as Zen it wouldn't be the same. Hi, Peach. I totally agree with you. In almost any instance where US producers have adapted a tv show or movie from another country, the end product has been inferior. They always change the very things that made the original successful and high-quality. About the only thing they manage to adapt faithfully, unfortunately, is horrible reality shows like Big Brother. After his experience with network interference in EH, I would be surprised if Rufus would agree to participate in an American version of Zen, because he's so justifiably proud of the original. The GQ story was just a joke, but it sure does make me wish for more Zen (original flavor). Does anyone know how the UK repeats earlier this month did, ratings-wise?

I doubt they'd have even shown up in the ratings, Rueful (I may well be wrong!) - it was shown on a minority, HD, digital BBC channel and it's usually only the terrestrial channels' ratings that are posted.

I don't recall reading this review at the time (6 Jan 2011) - curiously I came across it today. The comments are what I found particularly amusing: www.guardian.co.uk/theguardian/2011/jan/06/readers-room-responses-to-g2Here's the bit I liked: Tim noted. Still, "the ride was enjoyable enough – atmospheric in a murky, grey-green sort of way, with a pleasing, restrained chemistry between Sewell and his love interest. So far I like Zen, or at least the idea of him – honest but perhaps not incorruptible; hard-nosed, if slightly worried about messing up his shoes."
Like Zen? Most of you seemed to be lusting after him. "Rufus Sewell is completely mesmerising," drooled southboroughelaine. "Rufus Sewell in anything is a delight!" agreed zeldalicious. "Preferably in ancient armour with legs on display!" As far as Bella79 was concerned, "Rufus Sewell could have walked around reading the Italian phone directory, wet, in that lovely suit." For tindella, he "could speak Swahili – or not say anything at all."
"I'm not really the swooning type," concurred mrskite, who clearly is, "but Rufus Sewell glanced at me as he walked past on the Kings Road when he was at the Royal Court and I nearly passed out."Incidentally - has anyone ever seen a suit of armour with legs on dispaly!?

LOL! Those are great, Nell! I agree much more with the commenters than with "Tim," whose opinion is of no importance whatsoever.

I guess the "armour" fan was referring to Aggie's battle getup Nice comments all in all. And sorry, Tim, I guess you're just jealous. Zen messed up a lot more than just his shoes and I don't think he minded much.

Totally agree, much as I would love to see more of Zen, don't let the Americans get their hands on it.I think that programme was pure perfection so don't want anyone messing with it. Only wish Eleventh Hour with Rufus had been made over here.

Better to have more Zen, even if it's from us crappy Americans, than no more Zen at all! ;D

Dear Kitty, don't be so harsh on yourself. not all of us agree with everything the English do all the time. Quality is important and quantity is not always necessary, and sometimes beggars can't be choosers. But Trust Rufus to pick the best at least most of the time.

I think the decision to cancel EH and Zen after just one season was a bad one. Only proves that bad decisions are universal. I just think we need to be careful how we state that as to not offend anyone.

Did any of you watch AChristie's Chimneys episode last night . I did just because the lovely Anthony higgins was in it. Remember him from Zen? The minister? I could not help thinking he could play an aged up Rufus in Restless. Have followed Anthony for years, he suffers from being a none resident of this country just as I believe Rufus does.

Thanks GE2. I dont think its ever the intent to offend.
Zen had a great cast. I will need to keep an eye out for that if it comes to the States Voiceover.

I could not help thinking he could play an aged up Rufus in Restless. Looks-wise he'd have been a better choice than Michael Gambon, methinks.
