Loved episode three ! Roof was passionate, romantic , funny and moving, all in one episode. Obviously he was at his best! More passionate, romantic, funny, moving, brilliant and cool... You must know, gals, he started this episode just the day after he met me the first time, then he saw me again longer after 2 weeks, in the middle of it... so... ;D

Loved it, loved it, loved it. Very well written (I have not read this one), and well acted, loved how well Rufus does all of the ranges of emotion, happy with Tania, scared and tearful with his mum, etc, etc and loved the ending when he asked about his money. Fantastic, they had better do another series!! Btw, as soon as I saw the morning after armpit I smiled (did that make you all happy?).

! I love the script! I can see this trilogy as a big Zen film with three very interesting plots. The new parts never just used the main characters, but they continually were developing the Zen-structure. Every relationship of Zen got new colours again and again: Zen-Mamma, Zen-Tania, Zen-Colonna, Zen-friends etc. Rufus could act a whole range of emotions! It was like a dictionary (an exciting! dictionary), there would be an example for a lot of things. And I like how they write Dibdin's thoughts into the tale: the argument about Mediterranean life-style contra precision in the train scene of the book changed into a boss character. . (Maybe this is the rare occasion when reading the books before seeing the film can be better. I enjoy the films very much, but maybe the new readers will miss "cool" Zen in the books.) I love the Italian things: sitting under lemon trees , bad guys eating ice-cream, teasing with being from another part of the country,... I like the story of Ratking, they showed the special atmosphere of the family very well. Of course Rufus was simply fantastic ! His flight from the office after the desk-incident was , but his serious scenes were overwhelming as well. I'm a more devoted Rufus fan than ever (how is it possible?) "My name's Zen. I'm expected." Yes, Zen, I want as many new films as possible, and please bring all of your filmmakers with you.

I know I'm not the first one to mention this, but this was definitely the best Zen of the three! And I think the way it ended makes it possible for the BBC to develop many more Zen episodes (at least 8 please..but who knows? ). What I loved about this episode: the mix of action, fun and suspense, but particularly the way Aurelio smoothly managed to land on his feet time and again (even though they might have hurt, which as we saw his head must have). Other highlights: the many aspects of Zen Roof showed, Zen interacting with the politicians, with the Miletti family, with his own extended family (his mum, his best friend and Tanya). Zen at home (well, Tanya's temporary home) with nice bits of previously covered Rufus showing, naughty Zen at the office and ofcourse the scene of Zen and Tanya with their former boss (who subsequently placed his preposterous bet - priceless ;D). As for Tanya, I had to shake of the feeling that it wasn't right for him to have chosen her (your fault, Numbat ;D), and even though they seemed to enjoy eachother, their phoneconversations in which they declared they loved one another didn't quite ring true to me. He was sad when Tanya left, but not overly disappointed (considering all the things he had just arranged with Nadia Pirlo). So now the big drought is nigh. But at least we have the photo's (and video).

ok so thanks to you guys, and to instructions from rai, i re-installed expat shield, got it to work without problem, and ended up my day with aurelio zen on the bbc i-player.
YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
it was a well needed respite from an awful day (had to call the vacuum truck because the sewer basically enmptied itself in my bathroom (yes, it was very disgusting) AND i had a minor car accident. all in the same day.
but of course it was nothing compared to the problems aurelio faced in ratking (btw they never explained the title like dibdin did in the book, i think) but as he overcame the obstacles, i did as well!!!
he only temporarily lost tania, as i temporarily lost having a clean flat. but nothing is perfect.
what a brilliant ep that was, right? RIGHT? so clever and funny - yes, even the dialogues seemed easier to understand.
the desk joke going on through the whole episode was a riot, really. when hueber "sat down" on the desk, i laughed out loud like i had not done in a while... i never even saw it coming. i never see those jokes coming, i am such a gullible audience.
roof was top notch, of course, and seemed to be enjoying himself too, he has shown a nice range of emotions here, like you guys mentioned above, i do not think the unemployment will last long this time. at the very least, there will be more eps. there has to be more eps.
i think murino was brilliant as well (especially with the desk joke), she and the roofman definitely have great chemistry, they are so awfully cute together, i hope their characters will sort out their problems in time for the next eps (praying praying praying for next eps to come).
the cast as a whole was so very good, as the screenplay let them be seen a bit more. i hope that the georgio character will chose to stay and work for "chief zen", and he may do so, he was pleased to death to see his pal take hueber's place. i liked georgio. and i am growing attached to shadowy amadeo as well. especially since aurelio now can get back at him at little as he has in ratking.
i even wish despicable fabrizio will stay. we always like a good treacherous s.o.b. to plot in corners, don't we?
you guys are right, this was BY FAR the best episode of the three. the story was much easier to follow, the dialogues were total genius, the cast was spot on.
I WANT MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORE !!!!!!!!!!!
oh and, needless to add this, but i have to: RUFUS IN THOSE SUITS IS TO DIE FOOOOOOOOR !!!!

What a great, great ending to the series. Last week I said I wished Cabal had been the first one shown, but now I wish this one had been first. Just to try to win over some of the people who didn't like it. (I still have a really hard time fathoming why some people--bloggers and tweeters--seem to really HATE it. How could you hate something that was so fun?)
There were certainly a number of changes from the book, and as Tipou mentioned, they never even explained the story behind the "ratking." But the writer did a great job of adapting the story for tv. I'm sorry this has ended but so glad it went out on a high note.
Everyone has mentioned a lot of great scenes and moments, but my favorite Rufus acting moment was when he meets the son-in-law for the first time and the son-in-law says, "YOU'RE a detective?" in such disbelief. The fleeting look of shock and hurt on Rufus's face was perfect. He's heard all the "insults" about his honesty and insults about his competence before, but that one really seemed to hit home. His self-identity is so wrapped up in being a cop, doing his job to the best of his ability, that he is horrified that others don't see him that way. Rufus is just amazing.

I didn't manage to watch my missed 15 minutes yesterday and all your wonderful reviews make me want to do that now even more! tipou: *hugs* for your awful day - isn't Zen just the perfect remedy for that? (Hope you're OK after your accident!)

I just had a 2nd go on Ratking - and fortunately I stumbled across the subtitles at the very beginning - it helps to understand not only most, but everything of the punchlines ;D IMHO Ratking is really the best of the Zen films - in every respect. Great plot, brilliant actors, lots of fun and thrill. The stories of Michael Dibdin have been untwined and assembled in a very coherent way. The end of Ratking makes it possible to tie up to it again - which I very much hope they will do soon. Rufus is exceptional in his range of emotions (which he of course always is), the screen caps show it perfectly. And now since I've seen Vendetta an Kabal without subtitles, I'm afraid I'll have to re-watch them again soon ;D
