The solution of the case was the same in the books, but the explanation was much more complex.
SPOILER FOR "VENDETTA" THE BOOK
There were actually many chapters told from the viewpoint of the person who finally turned out to be the killer, making things much easier to understand.

Thank you, Kissmekate! That relieves my mind. I couldn't believe that any writer, and certainly not an award winner like Michael Dibdin, could be so sloppy. I suppose the screenwriter had to cut because of time constraints, but he should at least have provided a sentence or two to explain. I'm going to go out and get the book now since I hate things being up in the air like this.

Do get the books, jo, they're fabulous. The stories are a little different from the series, but the basic characteristics are there, and Dibdin is a wonderful writer!

This review is too good not to post: popdose.com/the-three-strike-rule-zen-and-the-art-of-murder-maintenance/The highlights: Rufus Sewell's eyes immediately lure you in to watching Zen<.....> Sewell......is so in the moment as the character, so unaware of the camera, that it's like watching a documentary of a master detective at work. His exceptional acting is just one reason why I quickly fell in love with this smart, stylish, hip television series.<.....> Full of mystery, with a touch of humour, Zen is superb television, thanks primarily to Sewell's performance. <.....>After seeing him in the role I can't imagine anyone else playing Zen in the near future. Likewise Murino, who adds class, vulnerability and grace to the role of Tania. These two are truly one of the most charismatic and sexy couples on TV this year.Do you think he liked it? ;D

Hello girls... I just finished reading your posts on Zen episodes, and I'd like to share some thoughts on them, too. But first, I found a blog the other day, "booktalk and more", with long and detailed reviews on all the 3 episodes of Zen (as well as on The Taming of The Shrew) booktalkandmore.blogspot.com/search/label/Rufus%20SewellAs for my personal taste, I enjoyed Zen. Equally all of the 3 parts. Generally I like detective stories, classic and contemporary ones, too. On the top of that, if RS involves in them… I really expect them to be thrilling. To draw it short, for me he is zengenious in Zen, sorry for the silly wordgame. What I like in his playing, first of all, that he looks exactly as his character. He is the one. A reincarnation. Sure that it is his job. But in addition to this, he always seems looking for his particular ways expressing the character the best. He is astonishingly spontaneous and vivid. Living, not just describing or coldly playing him on a mental level. I mean he must be involved in it, became the person who plays – and not a little bit. The more complex/well-written the character, the more possibilities for him to play it, from A to Z and beyond. He is playful that’s why I see him a great player. I wish I could do it in my life too, becoming a good player of my life. He’s a kind of teacher I think ! I found very interesting what chocholate thought about the connection of Zen and Tania. For my eyes, Zen devotion was intense, but I missed Tania devotion, to tell the truth. Though I admire the beauty of her, I must admit. I think these kind of nuances work like "magical" parts of our human nature. I wrote Zen and Tania, because who knows that what we see, comes from our interpretation? or the characters’ script? or the actors’ job? or the actors’ personal chemistry? It can be very hard to undress (mentally) and showing your soul to the camera. But after all, I love that these kind of works, with their imperfections, and RS talent makes me think and asking questions all the time. Re-phrase one sentence of one the Cabaret’s nice song, questions make the world go round… don’t they? Have a nice Sunday!

"zengenious" hits the nail on the head! Totally agree with all you said about Rufus being Zen, not just playing him.

Castaneasativa, thanks for your wonderful descriptions of Rufus's talent. You are right, he wasn't just acting as Zen, he WAS Zen. I really like your choice of the word "playful" too, because that is exactly what he is. He gives us the sense of a real human being, who is sometimes serious, sometimes scared, sometimes hurt, sometimes in a good mood, sometimes funny. Those dimensions are missing so often from the portrayals of cops.

I have just found this interview www.guardian.co.uk/tv-and-radio/video/2010/dec/31/zen-rufus-sewell-michael-dibdinI haven't seen it before but if it has been posted, I truly can't say "I'm sorry" for posting again, because it is a wonderful interview and deserves to be shown again... and again... and again. Look at the interviewer's face. her jaw is nearly on the floor and talk about drool?!?! Am I being b*tchy and envious ?? You bet I am!!!
