JD, please come and watch me in Zen if you haven't yet. The other fangirls want me to lose the t-shirt - what about you?
I come down on the side of "no T-shirt is better". Yes, I am a shameless hedonist.

Well, jd, it's basically just my well-shaped shoulder you can see ... but at least there's no annoying T-shirt around. Welcome to the Rooftop!

I am only about half way thru the list of his films so I anticipate that my favorites list may yet change.
So far, my favorites are: Lord Marke from Tristan and Isolde - he's so clearly taken by Isolde and destined to have his heart pulpified by her failure to love him back without reservation. I ache for him. Mick from In A Savage Land - I dunno why completely. There's just something about his character's willingness to let the woman grieve in her own way. I have a hard time envisioning another actor bringing that to life so quietly and subtlely. Jasper from The Holiday - I know, I know, he's a complete S**t but I once fell for an Englishman who was his big brother, I think, and I am not objective.
but by far, by miles and miles, my favorite is Petruchio from TOTS. The writing on that piece was brilliantly funny and daring and both he and Shirley Henderson dove in fearlessly. And a man who has the opinion that the woman he's marrying deserves to know and can handle...whatever oddities he embodies. Well, knock me over with a feather.

And no, I have not yet seen Zen. I don't get to see it until late January when the DVDs arrive from Amazon UK. I live outside Seattle and we don't get BBC One.

I haven't seen The Holiday yet, but Marke and Mick are also among my biggest favourites, perhaps because they both have that strength paired with gentleness and have such heartbreaking moments.
Petruchio is a totally different character, but it's one of Ruf's greatest roles, I'm absolutely with you there.

I see you are a woman of discerning taste !
TOTS seems to come out top for many of us here. Me being one of them. I have Charles 2 in second place. I highly recommend it - although if you can get it in region 2 I understand it's better. I believe the region 1 was cut up a bit. The US ladies will be able to fill you in on that. I think there are some comments in the Charles 2 thread too.

Welcome jd, I'm new too! Awesome that you have seen Rufus twice in the flesh. So-oo jealous! Its interesting what you say about the lady that recognised Rufus at Heathrow as I read an article where he says he can get about in London and use the tube etc without being recognised. I think that will probably change after the popularity of Zen which I suppose will be a shame for him in some respects. You see, he has not been on telly in England really since he did Charles II in 2004. Nell has also said she has met him and that he is as good in the flesh as he is in pics and film. If she picks up this thread would love to know where they met! I am also discovering and enjoying all the DVD's of Rufus I have not previously seen. My next two are going to be TTOTS and Tristan & Isolde. Sorry to have rambled on. Hope you enjoy it on her - I'm sure you have lots of fun.

In case Nell doesn't see this, Robela, you need to look through this thread: rufussewell.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=news&action=display&thread=1559I was there also. (I'd also met him three times previously when he was in Rock'n'Roll) He really is even more handsome in real life (hard to believe, I know!) and very kind, gracious and patient with his fans.

Thanks GE2. Robela I posted the link to this one in your Hello intro thread too and also to last months Christmas Carol when Anniem and I met Rufus again. No pics in the latter but quite a full report ! ;D Yes he's every bit as handsome - if not more so in the flesh. I definately recommend it !
