I've been watching the terrible flooding in Queensland on the news. I know it's far from Numbat, but I'm not sure about Quoll or our other Aussie members.
I'm so sorry that people are suffering and hope none of your loved ones are affected.
While the news was reporting that story, they mentioned a wildfire near Perth! How awful, to have so much going on at once! Numbat, I hope you are far away from the fire and that they get it under control soon.
Be careful out there!

I just saw it on the TV, it does look terrible. Reminds me of Tsunami and Katrina.... I felt terribly sorry, I really hope that the surge will slow down and stop so helps will reach them very soon. I really hope that our ladies, their family and friends are save....

Quoll is much further south, so should be okay. It is terrible, isn't it? Such extreme weather all over the globe.
Hope everyone is safe.

I thought about this on my way into work this morning. Say the devastation on the news and was worried about our Aussie members. Hope they are all safe.

Fingers crossed our friends in Oz stay safe. Numbat, you're welcome here in SF any time. We only have the odd earthquake once in a while. :-)

Ditto from me on all the good wishes to our Aussie friends! I read somewhere that they said the flood was covering land the same size as all of Germany and France combined. They really know how to do it up big in Australia.

I've been trying to hear more about Australia in the HeadLine news and CNN when I got the chance, but every single time I clicked those channels it's either Lindsey Lohan's issue or Michael Jackson's court!!!! With respect to those two, but I want updates from my neighboring country!!!!
Glad to hear Quoll & Numbat are save.....and hoping that others will follow.

Thanks for your concern everyone. I don't believe we have any members in Queensland which is where the floods are happening, but it's certainly almost a surreal experience i think for those who are caught up in it. Some more remote parts of the state have been flooded for several weeks, but they have had a huge amount of rain in some areas which have resulted in the rivers which were already flooding being completely unable to cope. So the huge volume of water which is travelling down towards the sea is just amazing. Houses are completely under water, cars are being picked up and carried along like toys and, most importantly, people are being swept up and drowned. We do have regular fires and floods, but loss of life is usually rare as we have amazing emergency services who know how to handle this kind of thing when it happens. So for 15 people to have been drowned in and around their own homes is a tragedy - and they believe the death toll will rise as they find more bodies. Although people living in a city are no more important that all those people who live in the country, the real impact is evident when you look at the level of flooding in the capital city of Brisbane. It's a normal, modern city which is now partially underwater including offices and businesses and luxury homes - places that you would never think of being flooded. I don't know if any of you saw the vision of a riverside restaurant from central Brisbane being actually swept along the river. If anyone wants more news, this is a link to ABC News 24 which streams online (and has no geographic blocks so should be viewable by everyone): www.abc.net.au/news/abcnews24/Just give it a few moments to load and then you can watch the live broadcast. It's one of those tragedies that will go on long after the water has receded as the mud and debris need to be cleaned from houses and businesses, farms and roads need to be repaired and industry needs to get back on its feet. The irony is that on the other side of the country where i live, we're desperate for rain.....

That's really awful, water can do so much damage - you can probably throw away just about anything if your house was flooded
