For Canada, got to Amazon.ca . It shows an Amazing Grace DVD, no photo or other identifying info, with an August release...I assumed it was the one we're waiting for...could be another ?

Yes, I think it's another. Typically the US/CA for a major motion picture would be released at the same time with the same distibutor as they are both R1. I'm not sure what you are looking at but I did a pretty thorough search and didn't come up with anything that looked like the Apted film. At any rate I've ordered it from the UK so it should be arriving in the next few weeks.

videoeta.com has it listed for release on November 13. I don't see which region it's for, so I'm guessing it's R1.

Well, I enjoyed it despite the critics who said it was too wordy. I took a friend who was also rivetted and enjoyed it immensely but you did have to pay careful attention to all the words or you missed much.
Rufus was great as the rather eccentric Clarkson and no doubt relished the several increasingly grotesque wigs that he got to wear. He also had pretty much the best one liners which, I suspect were not really within the character of Clarkson who was, from all accounts, a bit of a curmudgeon. I also enjoyed Michael Gambon as Fox who seemed to have a great deal of fun with his role as well. Ciaran Hinds and Toby Jones were almost pastiches as the "enemy". Albert Finney was a bit too much of a ham for my liking and I found myself irritated with him which was a shame. Ioan Gruffudd was OK and I did enjoy Romola Garai's performance, she seems to get more beautiful as she ages.
The time shifting was confusing especially at the beginning. Some times it was labelled but other times you werent too sure when the action was taking place.
It will be interesting to see how the Australian media critiques it. You never can tell with our local pretentious critics who seem to dislike almost everything I enjoy and adore stuff which I find boring and pretentious (yes, did mean to put that twice in the sentence, it describes both perfectly!)

Mm, have to agree with you about Finney, sadly - but also about Gambon.
So tell us your favourite Rufus scenes, then, Quoll! Or is that all of them?

Nice bit of praise for Rufus in a DVD review of AG: "It is Rufus Sewell who really stands out however as Thomas Clarkson. For once he is not playing a villain and he gets the chance to provide a few laughs in a very serious movie." www.realmovienews.com/dvd/reviews/1533(you might need to scroll down for the review)

Thanks GE2 I enjoyed reading this review, though the writer was much more impressed with Ioan Gruffudd and Albert Finney than I was when I saw the movie in February.

Did you notice this article yesterday? Thomas Clarkson monument restored By Anishka Sharma Comment A GRANT of £48, 000 has enabled a monument of Thomas Clarkson, a key figure in abolishing the slave trade in 1807, to be restored in Hertfordshire. The restoration of the monument in Wadesmill is due to take place in October after Thundridge County Council and Hertfordshire County Council received funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund. County council leader David Beatty said: "It is only right that the monument is restored and given the prominence it deserves" The story of Thomas Clarkson and the abolition of slavery is followed in the film "Amazing Grace" released earlier this year, in which he is played by Rufus Sewell. found online at: www.stalbansobserver.co.uk/mostpopular.var.1626662.mostviewed.thomas_clarkson_monument_restored.phpNow that takes talent!
