For me, its two roles. Nothing beats seeing him from the 3rd row as the incandescent Jan on the New York stage last year. And just as vividly, as the narcissistic Petrucchio, Rufus just owns it onscreen.

i have not read the whole thread, but i hope i am not the only one to have been touched by his reading of armitage's poem 9/11 out of the blue. i remembered crying over that one. in fact, that is where i truly discovered rufus. it was tough to go over this awful event once more, but the deep humanity of both author and actor made for a very dignified reminder of what life is really worth...

Yes tipou, his performance was really intense and touching, I loved it.

I think you might find it on the webpage under commentaries...

And now the guy is stuck in a TV series that is so beneath his talent, and I might never, ever see him on stage. Still happy for all of you ladies who have had the chance to see him.

Still happy for all of you ladies who have had the chance to see him. look on the bright side. 1) gives us something to look at weekly - possibly on dvd one day... the series is no masterpiece by any standard, but still rufus lokks good in it. 2) probable that there will not be a 2nd season, so he will be free to hit the stage again. 3) you are probably more likely to see him on stage than i am. i would be mightily surprised if rufus would appear on a montreal stage. let alone in drummondville, quebec, canada.

Yes, you're right of course, tipou! Sorry to be whining. And I do get to see great performances by great British actors regularly. So I should really count my blessings.

I am Swiss, but thanks to easyjet and a dear friend in London, I can afford to go to go there a few times a year and see three or four plays each time. I have a horrible mixture of Swiss, US-american and British in my English.
