wowowowowowow... Now this was something to listen to. I don't know if the story held a special appeal for Rufus or I'm in a particularly susceptible frame of mind but this was lush and extravagant and just generally delicious. I think I have a crush on a fictional character now and one I never would have dreamed having a crush on in my life. The exchanges between Bond and Honeychild Ryder are just... sheer romantic bliss. Anyone else notice this or do I just need some rest?

Oooh, I haven't listen to this one yet. As I'm a definite proponent of sheer romantic bliss I'll be checking out this one out soon! Bond doesn't actually refer to her using that disgusting name I hope. I'm a Southerner for God's sake, but that name is revolting. Of course, it could be worse....Pussy Galore anyone??

there is actually a story associated with her name. Her parents burned in the house and she and her nanny live in the basement until her nanny dies. Presumably her nanny has called her honeychild and since she was tiny when her parents died, the name stuck.
Bond calls her Honey. I did put up an audio excerpt on the webpage if anyone has a hankering to listen. It's Honey telling Bond about her life. Rufus does such a lovely job with her I can just see her. I don't know why I was so taken by this one. I can only guess that it was one of his favorites and he passed that love of the story on...
There is just something magical and sweet about the relationship between Bond and Honey in this one. It's nothing concrete. It's completely emotional and ephemeral. This is one of the things I like so much about Rufus. Even when he's simply reading his emotions are right out there for anyone who cares to connect.

I actually prefer his readings to his films. I think it's because it's more like theatre. And the Bond stuff just fascinates me because barfleur has mentioned that he cold read them.
There are places in some of them where the accents change so swiftly it's difficult to keep track and he flows from one to the other effortlessly. And I love how he loves the words. I don't notice it so much in film but he really loves the sounds of some words and their feel on the tongue, and there is great relish in the way he uses them.

Hey Peach... I just ordered the Audio Book of DR NO on cd with Rufus narrating through Amazon. com. It was used from a private seller. There aren't too many copies out there. I did check E-Bay but that was a cassette and was read by someone else. Hope you have luck finding it.

Sorry to say I don't own an ipod. I guess I'm just behind the times but I am lucky I can maneuver through this web site, since I am so computer illiterate. I have learned a few things just by talking to all of you fine people. Rufus fans are the Best!

It is relatively an old topic, but I only wanted to add to the " ". This is actually my first complete audio book that I've bought and have listened to. Hence my opinion is not alltogether shaped and from experience. Nevertheless, I was very pleasantly surprised. While working on some drawings on the computer, not a job where you can divide your attention too much, instead of music I started playing Dr. No. And listened to it from the beginning to the end in one go. The story was quite interesting for me and the narration was simply superb. Husky voice or not,no doubt it was captivating. I will follow this book with some of the rest from the Bond series, probably Goldfinger, and definitely will go for the version that Mr. Sewell is narrating.

Glad to hear you enjoyed it, Chocolate. He is just a fantastic narrator! He makes every different character so real. I'm sure you will like the other books too. From Russia With Love is also a good story.
