LTM - Those pics are amazing. I swear, every cent you spent on that photography course paid off. As meg said, they are professional quality, the night ones included. Thanks for sharing your day with us. I enjoyed each and every one.

For those of you who like/love Downtown Abbey. Last week I had a wonderful day out at Highclere Castle, beautiful home of the 8th Earl and Countess of Carnarvon. (And film location). Jackdaws Castle Later in the year the lavender will come alive! Now for inside: Sadly vistors are not permitted to take photgraphs inside the castle..... The library was amazing, virtually 2 rooms floor to ceiling, wall to wall tomes. Mostly leatherbound and lovingly tatty as if well read. The central Gallery Room with its concrete balistrades, glass roof and the saloon below. I gazed for ages imagining, music, laughter, wine, song, dancing and a roaring log fire. Mesmerising atmospere. But my favourite just has to be the diningroom with the imposing painting of Charles I dominating one end of the room. Here's a scan from the guide book to give you an idea. There were a multitude of other interesting paintings and one in particularly caught my eye. It depicted the 2nd Duke of Buckingham as a child (George) and his brother Francis Villiers (painted by Sir Joshua Reynolds - ) I had to smile - no doubt relatives of the notorious Barbara Villiers!! A stunningly beautiful house/home, but OMG I wouldn't want to dust it. The Castle grounds extend to 1000 acres and apparently there are only 2 full-time gardeners...

PGG, if you want to go in September book early. I booked my trip about six weeks prior to my visit. You have to pre-book for a tour, no tickets on door.
