I think you're right, GE2. The sentence, as it was typed in the article, even repeats the phrase "we were going to," so something is definitely off. He did sound a bit cranky; like Welshdragon mentioned, he's probably annoyed about getting the same old questions over and over again. Either that, or he had low blood sugar and needs a muffin.

Re his comment "I sent this missive about how we were going to we were going to speak to them (the press); I’m in charge of my own intellectual property, thank you very much.", does anyone else think a word was missing there? I reckon it began "I was sent...." - then the "intellectual property" bit makes more sense. Thanks for mentioning this, GE2. I tried to make sense of that sentence several times over. Yup. Would have loved to actually hear him or he had low blood sugar and needs a muffin.

I think I remember reading that the author Anne Rice of Interview with a Vampire was not happy at first with casting Tom C as Lestat. Maybe Rufus was who she had in mind! I think thats part of his frustration, not being offered some of these "big name "roles. I am waiting for him to have a Colin Firth kind of year. The opportunity of a role that will prove to others what we already know.
Interesting to read some of his Jasper role was cut. Darn!
Interesting to read about his thoughts on Adam. Sounds like he might be an interesting character. Not just a bite in the neck kind of guy...not that theres anything wrong with that!

(And, boy, didn't he sound testy throughout the interview?!) Definitely agree. Sometimes you can smell a hint of sarcasm in some of his past interview answers, but not this time and I think the reason behind it is exactly what some of you have said. He always gets thrown the same questions and the interviews almost always seem to be carbon-copies of each other. The constant references to the "smouldering, Byronic" (although that one hasn't been used in a while), "brooding" (I've NEVER understood that one) villains is so stale. I've found that (although in this interview it isn't mentioned for once) his dad's death is frequently mentioned for no real reason and I honestly can't blame him for getting annoyed. He would probably much prefer something like a This or That interview. Random. There's so much we still don't know about him and while of course, private things ought to be kept private, I think a lighthearted interview like that would be refreshing for him while also being fun for us to read. I think my favourite interview was the one where he talks about Hostess cupcakes and seeing Al Pachino on the lift. I am waiting for him to have a Colin Firth kind of year. The opportunity of a role that will prove to others what we already know. VERY well said, Kygal! He deserves it so much!

I know Rufus isnt interested in super-star type fame, but I do wish he would get the respect he deserves. I know casting people are familar with him and are aware of how great he is, you would realize that very quickly. Why not him over George, Brad, Johnny, Tom etc. It has been one role or a combination of roles that have gotten them where they are, why not Rufus. I know he accepts this as the way it is, but I know it must be as frustrating to him as it is to his fans. Oh...I guess I will stop whinning now. Wonder what he will do next??

I don't think you are whining I often wonder that myself, but maybe those at the top aren't that fussy about the films they do. Also, those names bring in the money and unfortunately that is what a lot of block buster films are all about.

As far as I can tell, and from what I've heard, the Hollywood suits usually go with the "sure thing". That is why if a film is a hit, they will make 30,000 sequels and spinoffs, and the same actors get cast over and over again. Hollywood, as bohemian as it is, hates to take chances where making money is concerned. So, basically, Rufus doesn't get better roles because the guys making the decisions are stupid (The Smurfs in 3D, really??) money grubbing a**h@les. And now I'll tell you how I really feel....

Your're right. It is about the money! But something has made these guys the Hollywood A -listers. Some break, some role...I dont know. I will say, some of them will fade with time because they are so one dementional.

No wonder that Rufus has so often expressed his dislike for accountants. Pity that many film companies seem to put easy money before quality

No wonder that Rufus has so often expressed his dislike for accountants. Pity that many film companies seem to put easy money before quality How true about the easy money! Just think of the many stereotypes of successful films! - But I doubt that this is only the fault of the accountants - with the exception of a certain DC of course!
