LOL! fortunately, it's not that type of romance....
Dippy, despite what I said in my previous post, I agree with Meg...it sounds weird, but the characters took over the writing, and they kinda did what they wanted to, which oftentimes wasn't the direction I thought it would go. So if your character tells you he/she works in a cafe, then so be it!

I wasn't aware of so many writers around here. Cool! rumantic, I love the cover, too Good luck to you and Dippy for the publishing! Much better than a picture of Fabio feeding a raven-haired beauty from a pair of chopsticks. ;D Ewwww, now I can't get that image out of my head!

I wasn't aware of so many writers around here. Cool! Absolutely! Now I wonder is there anyone of you that's working on film scripts? Just imagine getting Rufus interested in that!

I wish I were into screenwriting. I think up far too many details for that form of writing but maybe someday I'll try my hand at it. I have countless amounts of ideas for him (he has lately turned into something like a muse to me), but unfortunately they're all in novel form. All I can do is hope that they're published, then found, read, and transformed into a screenplay by a person in the industry. Having Rufus star in something based on something I've written would be more than a dream come true!

Dippy! I had no idea you write! That's fantastic! I agree with what GE2 says about using what you know, HOWEVER, one thing I've learned is to listen to my characters. If you're really stuck on which to choose, I suggest you sit back, close your eyes and really channel your character. In time, they will tell you themselves where they want to be. If the signal still remains unclear, picture your character in both places. Would making your character work in a pub change your story in any other ways? Maybe take a small scene that takes place in the cafe and change it to the pub just to see how things flow. I have no doubt you'll make the best decision! Good luck to you!!! PS: definitely send off your children's book again to as many places as you can. It'll get printed, I'm sure of it. Never give up! Thanks, it's funny you should say that because after I'd posted I tried to change it to a pub (just to see) and I found that a pub didn't work. She meets Ben (the love interest) in the cafe on his dinner break and there a a few character that I don't think would go into a pub at dinnertime. I do know a lot about pubs but I have decided to save that for my next novel, this one will stay set in a cafe (and I will be vague). As for my childrens book, I will keep trying because I really believe it is a good book and I still read it to my own kids (childminded children as well). They seem to like it. Who knows maybe one day you will see my name on a book. I can dream. ;D

Keep dreaming!! I've written quite a lot of (bad ;D ) stories in my teens and then gave up on the whole thing for want of a subject that really worked for me. It took Rufus's Mick Carpenter as an inspiration and the encouragement of some of the ladies here to resume writing at least in the form of fan fiction. And I have to say it's kind of addictive I don't think that I'll ever manage a whole novel, though - hats off to those of you who are working on such a large project, and lots of luck! Meg - having your novel filmed with Rufus would be the ultimate reward, wouldn't it?

@dippy: really pleased you were able to pick what you think is best. I've had a fair share of similar predicaments (and I'm sure there are still some in store for me!) It's so good that you have your children to boost up your confidence. I've been doing some children's books on the side as well. I thought up a new one recently. It's based on a pic my sister took in England. White Bear: fan fiction is just as addicting for the readers as well! The first fan fic I ever read was one about Professor Snape (I got it from Top X Snape Sites back in 2002), and I fell in love with it. I tried my hand at it for a little bit, but then I was hit with my first big original idea (the idea that's turned into the novel I'm STILL working on and that I needed help with in the very first post) and put it away for good. It would definitely be the ultimate reward. I would be excited just to see him glance in its direction let alone read it then breathe life into one of my characters!

I almost forgot I created this thread! Well, this isn't as dire as the savoury ordeal, but I figured I'd ask anyway: Do any of you ladies (preferably the UK ladies since story is UK based) have any connections with clergymen or clergy-women. I mean if there's someone in your family or a friend of yours, or if you have a good relationship with someone in the clergy? I have only one really simple question now (it may turn into a few more a little bit later). Religion-wise it doesn't really matter (there's a reason why...kind of). Actually, come to think of it, one of you might be able to just answer the question yourselves. If you know about church procedures (ie: church-based weddings, but a specific part of it), please let me know. I'll send you a pm with my question I have a feeling the answer's no, but I'm not sure how to word it into Google Search to find out for myself Oh, and by the way, the whole savoury fiasco is over. My aunt Judy (who I've mentioned before in other threads) has a huge shelf unit full of spices and herbs. She was actually the first person I asked about it, but she'd never heard savoury as a herb. Just in case, my mum and I scoured her entire shelf without any luck whatsoever not long after I posted the first message. She also has a small side-table spice rack on one of her kitchen counters that has been there for years. I've looked at it a dozen times, but still tried to make a mental note to check it later on (something was preventing me from doing so at the time). Well, in true Megagem fashion, I completely forgot about it. When we visited her in June, the first thing I did was check that darn mini spice rack. Guess what was there. Guess what was there THE ENTIRE TIME. And guess what is now on my desk whenever I need to be reminded of the smell of it? ;D My aunt couldn't get over how happy I was about it (she had no idea she had it). I think she thought I'd gone off the deep end for a moment, then she found out it was all for the major story and how vital it is to the story, and she was more than happy to let me take it home as long as I thank her in the acknowledgements when Major Story is published. ;D It really is the least I could do. I thought up Major Story while laying on her living-room couch, after all.

Hehe. Isn't it funny how these things go? Glad your spice dilemma has been resolved.
I'm not a Brit, but I do know a few things about Catholic church weddings, so feel free to PM me with your question if you think I might be able to help.

Or if it's C of E you want, I work with someone who's a lay reader and occasionally conducts services for christenings and weddings.

My brother is a Christian studies major and will perhaps eventually become part of the clergy, so if you had a question about something of that nature, I could perhaps find out the answer through him, if you haven't had your question answered already.
