That would be me!
Here's my story: I'll begin by saying that I've known Rufus for several years and consider him a friend. He was expecting me and I left a note at the stage door letting him know that I was there. That pic of us in the street was taken by my friend when Roof saw me standing in front of the theatre and ran over to say hello and tell me to come to the stage door after the show. The play is quite different from when we saw it in June at the Royal Court. It felt lighter and they injected more humor - even going as far as playing little tricks on each other on Sunday afternoon, their last performance together. David Calder is much better as Max - he added more humanity and sympathy to the part. Of course Sinead Cusack was breath-taking as always but even she was giving more, if that's possible. Rufus was brilliant and looks fantastic, as you can see. He said he felt that they all had finally "nailed it". When I told him how good he looks he said he has been working out, which is obvious. ;-) When I went to the stage door and told them who I was, I was told to come in and go on upstairs. Then I heard Roof calling out, "just follow my voice, Ginny!" His dressing room was large and comfortable and we had a great visit. All in all my Aussie friend and I had a wonderful week in London but I can't help feeling a bit sad that it's over, for us and for Roof. But his star is on the rise and things are going so well for him in all areas of his life. One more thing - on our last night in London we saw "Little Britain Live". Talk about a contrast!! It was hilarious and all of west London seemed to be there! We laughed so hard we nearly cried. I fitting end to what was a bittersweet ending.

Thanks, Ginny, for sharing your story with us! And what a wonderful story it was! I'm green with envy! I hope it's not impolite to ask, how did you meet Rufus?
The more I read about him from people that have met him or, like you, know him........the more I'm impressed that he seems to be a decent guy! It's rare to find someone in his shoes that hasn't let fame get to them at least a little.
Thanks again for sharing your photos and your story! Michelle

Michelle asked how I met Rufus -
So here you go - some of you have heard this before since it's an old story but it's funny just the same. I went over to see Macbeth in 1999 and waited at the stage door to say hello to Rufus. I had never done that in my life but I really wanted to tell him how much I enjoy his work and give him the special Kentucky bourbon I had brought along with me from the states. When he came out the stage door he graciously spoke to the few who were waiting and I finally got my turn. I was a bit tougue-tied but managed to thank him and give him the whiskey. I asked him to sign my program, so he handed the bottle back to me. With the signed program in my hot little hands, as well as the bourbon, I walked away. As soon as I realized what I had done I went running back to see Rufus was watching and laughing. He told me that he was hoping I would come back because he really wanted that bourbon, which is unavailable in the UK. He also told me that that is the sort of thing he would do. We had a good laugh and that was it. We struck up an email correspondence later, and over these 8 years I've met up with him several times. Obviously I don't take bourbon anymore- I've switched to Kentucky specialty candies - a recent one being "Kentucky Pulled Creams" and you can imagine the fun Roof had with that one. ;-)
