Hi, everyone. I have been wondering about what we should do when we want to let others know that a particular Rufus film or tv show is going to be on TV. I had been thinking about it because "The Very Thought of You" is playing in the US now (on Starz channel), and then I saw that kissmekate posted about Zorro being on German tv.
Up to now, people either start a new thread or they put the information the existing "Works" thread for that film.
Do you think it would be easier if we created a thread (either in the Works area or in the Media area) that was specifically titled, "Rufus films on TV"? Then we could post notices whenever we found out something was going to be on. The advantage would be that all notices would be gathered in one area, so people would know where to look, even if the thread had been bumped from the homepage. The disadvantages would be that (1) members would have to remember to look in that thread periodically to see if there were new notices and (2) notices for various countries would all be listed together, so posters would have to be specific about where the film is showing.
Opinions?

I was in fact debating with myself whether to open a new thread or attach my notice to an existing one.
I think it's a good idea to have all the notices in once place, since nothing gets old as quickly as those announcement threads.

I think it is a good idea. Would the subject be clearer as 'Rufus films showing on TV' (key idea is the programming not the film)? I think it shd probably be in the media section as it is not abt the film itself but there cd be a note in the descrption for the heading of the works section. the first item in the thread or its decription could say about having to include what country channel etc.
but as for the disadvantage to have to look at te thread perodically... melodramatic 'put upon' sigh... is it any worse than now?! reading rooftop for me is like going on a a pleasant random ramble. it is true i often miss stuff and there is huge areas i have not even gone near yet.... but later there is the pleasant surprise of finding it!

Great idea Rueful! I think a new thread probably in the Works area would be the best. There's also the Movie of the Week thread coming under that heading. Or there's always other Rufus stuff. I think the media thread is perhaps best kept for events, interviews, photo shoots and the like and if exciting news were in the offing the "On TV this week" thread may soonn get buried.

rue, that's a fantastic idea... We can write it down everything here on this thread... And don't need so much threads for every tv movie news... Can you remove KMK's thread into this one?

Great idea, Rueful! I think if it's put in Other Rufus would be best - "Work Of..." is really for discussing the work, rather than announcing something is on. I think "On TV This Week" or "On TV Soon" would be a good subject line? (Maybe not just "Rufus on TV" - I think that should be used for when he turns up on interviews for new stuff)
Maybe, to keep it fresh, we could regularly delete the older announcements so it's only upcoming appearances that we have on there?

Great idea, Rueful! I always love hearing when and where his work is being shown and I think it would be great for any newbies especially who are maybe unsure about purchasing some of his films that aren't shown on youtube. Maybe, to keep it fresh, we could regularly delete the older announcements so it's only upcoming appearances that we have on there? Another great idea! It would definitely save some confusion. If there's a lengthy showing (like a 3-4 nighter, like some movie channels over here in the States) or a back-to-back showing of a certain film , we would of course include full dates and times of showings. I can understand the hesitation about where to put the announcements. Putting it on the banner would be a little silly as that's only saved for news, and I think it would also be a bit silly to start a whole new collection of threads, but I can see where this thread in particular would easily get buried. Is there not some sort of box or something that can be put on the main page with a sort of "PLAYING THIS WEEK" feature with all the listings/dates/times/countries/channels below each film? (Not "NOW PLAYING" because I don't want people to think RT provides film streaming! ) Maybe then we could link those listed films to the Works threads that apply to them? So maybe visitors to the site can get an idea of the film before they watch it? I don't know, this might be a bit too much work. Whatever you all decide in the end will be fine with me, I'm sure!

Great idea, Rueful! Then I'd at least know where to post any new dates and everyone would know where to look for it if it's buried by new topics. And I agree with GE2 that older announcements should be deleted, perhaps when the time has elapsed that it may be available on an i-player?

A box on the front page, as per Meg's excellent suggestion (thank you!), can be done, then we'll have a dedicated space to go to that can be seen right away. I could sort that out.
And maybe the person who posted the news could delete it when it's been shown - since that person is most likely to know when it's no longer available.

Thanks for all the input, everyone, and especially for all the excellent suggestions on how to implement this in the best possible way. We make a great team, don't we? I'll never understand why we aren't in charge of the world! ;D GE2, do I understand from your post that you're going to take care of setting it up? I'm not trying to shuffle work over to you (probably ), I just don't want to get in your way if you have a plan as to how to set it up so it's a box on the home page. If not, and you just want me to create a standard thread in the "Other Stuff" section that you will pin to the top, let me know and I'll get on it. reading rooftop for me is like going on a a pleasant random ramble. it is true i often miss stuff and there is huge areas i have not even gone near yet.... but later there is the pleasant surprise of finding it! "Pleasant random ramble..." I love that description! So true!

I'll never understand why we aren't in charge of the world! ;D You mean we aren't?! ;D I can make a new sub-section, yes, if that's what we you think will work best. The trouble is that even pinned, such a thread wouldn't be evident on the front page unless it was the last one anyone posted in. If the point is to highlight upcoming Rufus goodies, the home page is best, I'd have thought. It's up to you - I don't mind which way. But, since this was your (brilliant) idea, I'm happy to hand it over to you to sort out and administer once I've set it up! ;D

I'll never understand why we aren't in charge of the world! ;D You mean we aren't?! I think that would be fine, and I'd appreciate it if you did that. Makes perfect sense to me. Oh, I'm more of an idea person than administrator....{wanders away} ;D Just kidding!! So if we're having a separate subsection, what about making different threads for different countries/continents. Or is that too much?

I think that would be fine, and I'd appreciate it if you did that. No problem! I'm in the middle of something right now, and in any case I need to check how to do it (always a good idea!) so I'll do that later. Yeah, nice try! ;D I'll leave that up to you, Ms Organiser! (in my office, she who comes up with an idea tends to end up sorting it out!! )
