The first question I ask anybody when first meeting them is "What music do you like?" I'd probably go with that first, particularly knowing what little I do know. I could probably at some point direct that question the other way and ask what he doesn't like. This of course is for purely selfish reasons as a musician. I'd then ask, "Do you mind if I make you a mixtape of some sort?" (I LOVE doing that for people.)
I'll think of some other ones later when I'm able to get my mind out of the musical gutter.
