I saw the clip of Rufus on 'Jools...' on youtube, and it got me thinking...
Has Rufus ever been on a talk show in the US? I have never seen him on one before.
Maybe he's just not 'famous enough' here...but then, I've seen even lesser-known people on them. I would LOVE to see him on Conan O'Brien, especially.

I would love to see him on Parkinson. I did think of writing to Parky but somehow never got around to it.

I've never heard of that, but seeing you're from Australia, that's probably why.

I would love to see him on Parkinson. I did think of writing to Parky but somehow never got around to it. I loved Rox on Parkinson. That was when I really fell for him beyond his talent. He was so centered and normal and intelligent. It was fantastic to see. I'd love to see Rufus on Parkinson too. Of course it would be your responsibility to get it up on the web for us... ;D

Parkinson is the original English talk show - Michael Parkinson has been interviewing celebrities for aeons and does an excellent job. He seems to get most people talking although I hear he failed miserably with Meg Ryan!

He will probably make it to David Letterman once Rock 'n Roll opens on Broadway.

He will probably make it to David Letterman once Rock 'n Roll opens on Broadway. God, I hope not. I don't think David Letterman is a good interviewer. I'd rather see Ruf a show like Charlie Rose's or Inside the Actor's Studio. If he has to do a late night talk show, I'd rather see him on Leno than Letterman. With Letterman, I always get the feeling its all about him, not showing off the guest. Leno is just the opposite.

Funny you should bring this up. I was just thinking the other day how much I'd like to see Rufus on Charlie Rose. I'm not keen on Inside the Actors studio because I think it takes itself vastly too seriously and pompously. One of the problems in the US is that people have this idea that theatre is for snobs. No one needs to reinforce that image.

I agree, Actors Studio makes me cringe at times, and I rarely watch it. Sometimes the actors on it look uncomfortable, too. Charlie Rose would be a great choice! I mentioned Conan O'Brien just because he seems to 'bring out the funny' in people, and often gets them to tell funny stories...and Rufus seems like he has a great sense of humour.

Yeah, what's his face Lipton on Actor's Studio is annoying as hell, but still, he usually manages to get the actors to talk about something interesting.
I love Conan too! He's not much of an interviewer either, but like you said, his guests ALWAYS seem to have the most fun with him. I mean, my boy Gerard Bulter was COMPLETELY off the chain with Conan, and he's not one that holds back normally! LOL.

I'd take Letterman but only because it is the only US chat show of that ilk to get to Aus! I would even stay up late and record it for posterity if I knew it was coming. If he does get to be on one of those others, can someone please take pity on a poor antipodean and record it (getting the request in very early here!)

He only has guests to serve as a foil for his lame routines. Also, I've seen Parkinson on BBC America, and I imagine many of us here in the states have that channel.

Our best bet might be finding him on The Tonight Show someday because Jay is a movie junkie, and he likes to put European actors on all the time, I think because most of them are so charming and funny, and he sees that they make for good interviewies. I've often thought I should send Jay a letter and humbly suggest that although he is pretty good at highlighting say, British talent, there is so much great UK stuff we miss in the US, for lack of a platform. So, I would just love to do a Pattycake's Anglo File bit (a Ross the intern type thing) in a fun fan-girly way highlighting English/European actors. I am sure he should see the appeal this would have with his female viewers!! He always tries to put Ioan and Hugh on when he gets the chance, anyway. But, there is sooo much missed talent. Rufus and Matthew Macfadyen would be first on my list. I think they are the best of the UK, and the fact that they have never been on the show speaks volumes of Jay's need to get a clue to what's out there. It woudl be MY dream job to interview them for him anyway!!

I would prefer Leno, but Letterman is done in NYC and that would seem more feasible. I like Craig Ferguson more than Conan, although both are very funny and can get their guests to loosen up a lot more.
