Oh, ladies, now you're really making blush scarlet with all that praise Interesting that you say that. I was sorry to leave Rosie and the rest behind. Somehow you come to love those people you create I've been thinking about Will and Dorothea's future, too, imagining some pretty kids ;D (They did have two or three according to the book.) He does know about my Rufus thing - very aware of that. He likes to make little jokes about it but he knows it's not going away anytime soon. Hehe. I know what you mean. Mr. Kate likes teasing me about "my Englishman" ;D Well, Rufus is in South Africa right now to shoot "Restless"! Maybe your son will be lucky

Ah Wills, Wills, Wills. This isn't abnormal at all - this is the whole basis for fanfics. We love the characters Rufus has created and the worlds they live in so we keep the fun going with our writing. Sounds like you're a budding fanfic writer yourself. At least that's how I started out - writing Rufus stories in my head, imaging what came before and after what we were shown.
And if you want an easy (and fun) way to get to know people, check out the games.

Hi again. I recommend to any of you lurkers to not wait as long as I did to de-lurk. There is never a good time to start. Just jump in because it only gets more hard the longer you wait - not easier. Okay, a couple of things. I have loved hearing from you fanfic writers. I have read some of Joyce's Eleventh Hour stories and they were very entertaining (more than the show) but I never actually saw it when it was on TV. Not sure how I missed it! Where was I?? I did buy the series on Amazon and saw them all at once. But I have never revisited them for some reason. Particularly liked the one where he was in the shower and he freaked out. So it was Anyother who wrote the Frank stories - and Frannie? So confused which ones I read. They were really good. The ones where he visited his grandmother with that girl. I must have read some of frannie's TOTS stories - those are wonderful. He is so funny in those. I know I have read some of Anglo's stuff but not sure now what it was now. Can't seem to keep anything straight. Just remember it was really impressive. Sorry. And now she is in Europe on a writing sabatical. Oh, and whoever wrote those Adhemar stories - please write some more! Okay, I will never write. I can't write for one thing - or punctuate, obviously. And another thing is that you guys will not want to know what goes on in my head. Okay, you might enjoy it but I just can't write very well. Oh, forgot to say here that I was very happy to hear from Kate. Just made me very happy. Will would make an excellant story, huh. He is so sweet. Never saw that on TV, either. What?? And I have seen alot of Masterpiece Theater, too. I was looking for him all those years, too. I think I saw Cold Comfort Farm, though, in a theater. Or maybe I just rented it when I saw he was in it a long time ago. Because if CCF was before DC I did not see it in the theater. A year ago I told my #2 son about him (English teacher) and he kept asking if he was in the movie with the 2 brothers and I kept saying no until I realized he was talking about CCF. He likes him too. We have so much in common. Except he can write. His stories are posted on carnivalsofaffection.wordpress.com/ They are about his travels and he wants to put them in a book someday. Okay, I do know that #1 son will not be seeing Rufus in S. Africa - he's going to be 12 hours away for Pete's sake. I'm really not delusional - well maybe a little. These two sons are very different but they are very close. Okay, lastly, a couple of you have mentioned that I should play the games. And I know it would rack up my number of messages very quickly and not make me look so new while enabling me to get to get to know you guys better. But, I just don't play games very well. For one thing I really don't understand them at all. Was it Voiceover that said that? Ditto here. I walked home from a Charade's parade, in my youth, alone in the dark, I was so panicked. I know it's not quite the same thing but you get the idea. Would have to overcome some fear to do that. Which is never a bad thing, huh. Have to leave now to get ready for our little (3 day) 42nd anniversary trip to the beach. We're taking our youngest daughter with us for old times sake. She went with Dr. Wills (no he's not a doctor of any kind - I just think it's funny) and I on our 25th because she was a baby and still nursing (only nursed 3 of them). In fact she has worn a mother-of-pearl ring that he bought me on that trip for a few years now. She is the only one home now - can't leave her behind. She's lonely without her brother (#3). Was it Rueful who will be losing her only child/daughter soon to college? That is a really sad time. And it's never the same when they come home. We have a year left with ours. It goes by so quickly but it has been such a wonderful life. I apologize profusely to all of you for this being is so long.

Okay, how do you guys edit your posts? I meant to say Charades party - not parade. That would be a really weird sight. Anyway, so many things I need to learn here.

Hi, Wills! LOL about the Charades Parade. I was wondering what you people get up to there in Washington! To edit your posts, click on "modify" just above it and to the right of your post. Then you can make changes to it and repost. (Just be sure not to hit "delete" by accident! I've done that once or twice. Very annoying.)
You may already know this, but just in case: If you hit "Reply" on the right side of the blue bar at the bottom of any page, it will bring up a box that will give you a lot more posting options than the "Quick Reply" box at the bottom of the page, like some smiley faces, using italics, adding pictures, and so on.
None of these options appear if you're not logged in though. I know it all seems complicated now, but most of us had no idea what we were doing at the beginning, and most of us are not particularly technical. Feel free to ask if you want to learn how to do anything.
Of course, no one wants you to go outside your comfort zone, but your posts so far show me that you have a great sense of humor, so you might enjoy some of the games more than you think. They're not hard, and there's not really such a thing as "mistakes". People will help. But if you don't want to do that, feel free to join in any of the other threads you like, such as "I just" where we babble on about random parts of our non-Rufus lives, or the Holiday/Day Out thread where people post vacation pics. And you never have to worry about being "too long" in a post! We're a chatty group.
You're right, it is my daughter who is leaving me soon. I can hardly believe it--wasn't she just a toddler last week? Of course, like a typical teen she's been pulling away for some time, but I guess that's a good thing for both of us. (Remind me I said that when it's time for her to go.)
I hope you and Doc Wills ;D have a great anniversary!

Dear Wills yes I did say I didn't understand some of the games but oh boy I'm getting better by practise. I think you've gathered b now that i live most of my time in a w/chair and a lot of it at the hospital. Had a dreadful accident 12 years ago which is progressively limiting my body but the games help keep my mind alert and when I cannot sleep i have another go.I am not very computer literate and have only just learnt to click on the highest number desplayed [eg Crown Jewels crescent 1-450] click on the 450. it takes you so quickly to where you can do the next post. all of a sudden in less than a month I've got 5 stars and am in the so sewell me brigade. its fun its nothing but it makes you unseen friends who share your wit and laughter and even some of your sadness. Well that is my take in the Rooftop. come and sit up here with all of us. and welcome you will be

Okay, I'm back. Anniversary officially ended Tues. night with take-out on our special dishes and lots of little candles and Bob Dylan. The beach (Seaside, Ore.) actually had great weather. It was shockingly wonderful and doesn't happen very often. I loved it so much. We ate lots of salt water taffy and fudge on the beach. There was a huge tournament going on behind us - beautiful girls and bare chested young men in beige shorts running about looking naked. The last night there Doc built a campfire on the beach in the dark for us. I've always wanted to do that. He made 3 trips to the store to look at the bundles of firewood before he bought one. There was no kindling wood in the bundles and without our ax (at home) he couldn't figure out how he could make some. Also, he couldn't find the hardware store to buy one. So, finally he noticed that there was some stuff people spray on briquettes (he doesn't barbecue with those) by the bundles. Where's the lightbulb icon. Anyway, armed with my camp chair we trudged out onto the beach and he dug a hole and lit a fire in it. It was so magical - there were so many fires on the beach that night. I'll never forget it. I don't think our daughter will either. They took lots of pictures - not sure they are downloaded yet. I'm sure this should be in the "I Just" section but can't bring myself to go over there yet. There is a really funny picture of me, from the back - standing in the ocean - looking out in wonder - that she laughed hysterically at. Okay, just want to add that on the way home, we were driving down the Columbia River Gorge, when Doc said "There's an old style sailing ship". It was around 6pm. I looked and to my amazement - sailing upriver was a ship that looked just like Mick's ship. All I could utter was "In a Savage Land" - all reverently. Beautiful reddish sails and all - but it only had the two on the ends up. It was just so beautiful. We have been in the gorge many times and we usually only see windsurfers and barges there on the river by Hood River. It's between two dams there. I'll never forget that, either. Want to add too, that I was very touched by your post voiceover. Not sure why I wasn't aware that you were in a w/chair but if I was, I had forgotten. I'm sorry. I, too, have had to use one at times, but can't imagine having to use one all the time. I look on in envy when people wheel by on the street in them but I would hate to have to use one all the time or at home. I just have arthritis and back in '98' my hips were frozen, so I had both of them replaced that year, 5 mo. apart. Now I'm told I will need both of my knees done within a year or two. So I walk with a cane and Doc schlepps a camp chair around for me, in public, so I can sit down when I need to. It's embarrassing but at least I can go if it's a long way. I can kinda imagine what it must be like for you to try and sleep at night what with trying to get comfortable and having to shift your positions all night. Even though I don't pretend to know what you must be going through, I'm glad that you can come here for comfort and some fun on those trying nights when you can't sleep. Didn't mean to bring myself into it but wanted you to know that I can sympathize. Meanwhile, maybe I'll try and post somewhere else on this forum today. If I can get the courage up. I've certainly introduced myself enough and you guys have welcomed me more than enough. Thank you everyone!!! And thanks Rueful for your tips about posting. I wasn't aware of any of that.

That's kind of you Wills. I'm lucky in that my chair is powered and recently after some treatment I can use a walking frame some of the time in the house. but pain never goes away so I need all of you to keep me laughing - laughter is the best medicine.
