I came across this old interview this morning. I recall reading parts of it or perhaps similar interviews but after a, not so quick look around I can't see we have it posted on here. So here it is: www.guardian.co.uk/film/1999/feb/22/features

Ah, yes, I remember reading that, but don't think we do have it here - thanks, Nell! "Women are generally quicker to place Sewell than men." Hmmmm - wonder why that is? (And sorry, Rufus, but "teen Cinzano casualty"? That is such a wussy drink for a teenage rebel! )

Great one, Nell! Thanks again. I hadn't read this one before, but it's lovely. What he said about Emma Thompson "looking after him" on the set of "Carrington" reminds me so much of what many of his co-stars have said about him. (And sorry, Rufus, but "teen Cinzano casualty"? That is such a wussy drink for a teenage rebel! ) (Gives me a headache just to think of it!)

Every Twickenham youngster during that period knew how to get drunk on cheap drink and because many pubs along the Thames had outdoor spaces Publicans could not always keep tabs on what was going on. I used to watch the older looking youngsters going in and coming out with trays full of cheap alcohol for their mates.

Thank you, Nell! My first association was the Facebooth project. (I think it was the same year.) Reading this interview was similar to watching that video. Cool. One of my favourite parts is the last line: 'I think that it's a mistake to try and do an original performance. I'd love it if my natural, organic interpretation sent me in directions that nobody had tried before. But if you do something that everyone else has done the same way, so what? Maybe they are right.'One of my favourite Rufus pics is from a photoshoot from Macbeth time: From now I will call it 'so what?' pic. ;D "His first role was in a play called To The Island for which he donned a dress, wore a wig and became Gloria, madam of a brothel. It had wit; it had attitude, it had the glamour of acting alongside people who could grow real beards. Sewell was sold."I have read the author's words about that work: "It was an exciting few weeks - giving the students the basic idea - improvising the various scenes - putting it all together to make a workable and interesting play - sitting up till all hours typing. I am indebted to all those students for their hard work and encouragement just as now I am indebted to Eric Yardley and his talented company of young actors for giving me the opportunity to re-write and re-shape the piece into what you will see tonight." ( www.yat.org.uk/productions/index.php3?sid=72 with the pic of the very young Rufus)

Thanks for that, great interview. I too was a 'teen Cinzano casualty' I can't stand even the smell of it now - put me off alcohol for a few years (although I've made up for it since lol!)

Adina - I can always rely on you to add some back story to features. What a great find this is I love the story and both pics too. There is a pic somewhere of a teenage me in the very same pose. It was early morning and I'm was a t-shirt that belonged to someone else as I hadn't managed to get home the night before. I always thought of it as my leave me alone pic (AKA take a pic and I'll break your flamin neck : . Perhaps "so what " would work just as well ;D
