The first episode got very good ratings! Parade's End gives BBC2 biggest drama ratings hit in seven years
Parade’s End has taken BBC2’s drama ratings to a seven-year high after the critically acclaimed period piece made its debut on Friday.
Audience figures show the first episode attracted 3.5 million viewers, making it BBC2’s biggest drama in years. BBC2 trounced BBC1 and ITV’s Friday night prime-time ratings with 15 percent of all viewers, doubling its usual share. The five-part series marked a return to television for internationally renowned playwright Tom Stoppard after a 35-year hiatus. Stoppard helped boost the channel to its most impressive ratings since HBO’s historical drama Rome aired in 2005. www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/tvandradio/9504571/Parades-End-gives-BBC2-biggest-drama-ratings-hit-in-seven-years.html(rather worrying for the main channels that a minority channel beat them!)

Cool! Maybe this will help convince TV executives in all countries that if you put on literate, intelligent programs with superb actors, people WILL tune in. Like Rue said earlier, so much better to have something on TV that challenges us a bit instead of all that reality garbage.

That's great news! Thanks for keeping us posted about it, GE2.
I like your optimism, Joyce! From your lips to God's ears....

I loved this episode and I do hope that the next one will be as good! But sadly a lot of my friends didn't understand it at all... Curiously, most of their responses are basically that RS was the only good thing in the show!

I read in the latest edition of the Radio Times that Parade's End actually seems to hit the spot in episode 3. That it all seems to come together at last and all the various threads become more understandable.

So true Joyce, also your comments on Rev Duchemy possibly suffering from schizophrenia The point is yes he played it magnificently! This superb performance from Rufus may well lead to more character roles I think Thanks for the info on the viewing figures GE2. Amazing. So glad Rufus has a part in this. I will have to order the dvd in order to study it as you do miss a lot on just one viewing.

Well he did show up Kygal but I didn't note the time. The episode flew past. I was amazed the hour was over so soon. I felt Parades end really got going tonight. The characters were more rounded out. I think most will agree the story jumped about less. Although we got through a few years again in flowed really well. Now for the important bit - our man was brilliant and we kind of got 2 scenes, albeit consecutive ones. I haven't timed the on screen time yet ;D I'll say no more as I don't want to spoil it for those that haven't seen it yet Everything considered I enjoyed it more than last week (I felt the same about the first series of Downton Abbey) and will definitely be tuning in for the rest of the series, Rufus or no!

Yes in full agreement with you Nell. Really enjoyed this episode. Thought Rufus was quite brilliant! Hope he gets noticed and offered more character parts as he played the mad vicar so well again. He was so believable and quite frightening! The story really came alive tonight and I loved it. The settings, costumes and actors are all wonderful.
