I have always loved a Christmas Carol with G C Scott.
The family enjoys A Christmas Story since we all can relate to something in that film growing up.

My favourite Christmas movie is "Love, Actually". Even Mr. Kate likes that one, although he doesn't readily admit it.
Another classic we like to re-watch during the season is Little Lord Fauntleroy. Oh, and a very old version of Dickens's Christmas Carol. I can't even remember the name of the Scrooge actor off the top of my head. Alistair something, methinks.
And there's a German comedy I also love for its rather quirky humour - it's about a Christmas Eve party with a kind of extreme patchwork family. Some scenes are quite silly but I just love that one. (By the way, the male lead is played by Heino Ferch, Rufus's co-star from "Extreme Ops".)

My old favorite is "Miracle on 34th Street" but a more recent favorite is "A Christmas Story". And when I'm in the mood for a musical, it's got to be "Meet Me in St. Louis".

[/quote] Yes , me too Judy, especially because it has my all time favourite Christmas song sung by Judy ( another Judy) Garland . Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas when she get to the part "Next year our troubles will be out of sight ."It always makes me bawl.

So glad to know that I'm not the only one who tears up a bit at "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas"
My favorite Christmas movie is "White Christmas" with Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye. And I'm with Kygal - my favorite version of "The Christmas Carol" is the one with George C. Scott as Scrooge.

That's funny, KMK, Love Actually is my favourite too. So many little stories woven into one. I also enjoy watching old Audrey Hepburn movies at Christmas time. The black and white or beautiful old fashioned colours and the slow pace go well with Christmas, I think.

Oh, speaking of old movies and Audrey Hepburn, I just remembered that "Charade" is on German TV tomorrow evening. I hope I won't forget ;D
I love a nice old film for Christmas, too. Maybe you're right about the slower pace and the lovely nostalgic feeling fitting so well into this time of year.

KMK. The Dickens classic you mention is I think the 1951 version Scrooge-A Christmas Carol with Alastair Sim in the lead role. As it happens I am sitting here waiting to watch this, we have it on our Channel 5 later this afternoon.

Lassie, I love "Elf" SO much. <3 It's probably my favorite Will Ferrell film.
I can't really pick a favorite. I love most Christmas movies. I will say I'm fond of those Rankin/Bass claymation/cartoon movies that I've watched for years, since I was a little kid. "A Christmas Carol" is always good, too; I love the Disney version with Mickey and the others.
As far as classic Christmas films, I'm surprised no one has mentioned "It's a Wonderful Life." It's such a great movie that tugs the heartstrings.

I think I have to add Lady and the Tramp - I know it's only really Christmassy at the end, but it's one of those films that I associate with this time of year - probably because that's when it was usually shown when I was growing up. I watched it earlier and now have a warm fuzzy[glow=red,2,300]glow[/glow].....

Oh, and I must add "White Christmas" simply because it contains the song "Sisters" which my sister and I have to sing every Christmas. Sisters, sisters There were never such devoted sisters. Many men have tried to split us up But no one can.
Lord help the mister Who comes between me and my sister. And Lord help the sister Who comes between me and my man.

^ You mean the National Lampoon one? Yeah, that's great. I love the part where they ask the old woman to say grace, only for her to say, "I pledge allegiance, to the flag..."
