Ah, but just like when Zen aired here first, there are ways and means to see it, don't forget, Rueful - ways and means.... True--Sometimes a girl's got no choice but to be sneaky. ;D I just read the book and STAR in it he certainly will! What a great role for Rufus to play. I think Hayley Atwell is a great choice too. Absolutely loved the book .... Now I am torn...I've been waiting to read it, because sometimes I'm disappointed when good books are adapted for tv/film. But all of you who have read it have all liked it so much, it's very tempting....

Oh Rue, in to temptation. It's a good book. The fact that it's a 90 minute production means they'll have time to do the plot justice, so the chances of them mucking it up are so much less.

Besides Rueful if you've read all the blurb on Restless. You probably know most of the story already. Some of those articles should have spoiler warnings. If you read it now (if you're anything like me) it'll have had time to have blurred a bit by the time you watch it on tv

Thanks for the pep talk, ladies! I think I will try it, very soon, mostly because I trust your good taste implicitly. ;D {Adds to long list of books to read.} If you read it now (if you're anything like me) it'll have had time to have blurred a bit by the time you watch it on tv Excellent point! That was one reason I didn't complain about the plot changes in Zen...after 6 months, I didn't remember what was supposed to happen.

But isn't it nice to be able to say ... ;D I'm going to play devil's advocate here and say "is it?" ;D Isn't there something to be said for NOT knowing what's going to happen when you watch one of Rufus's pieces of work? I know that TPOTE was spoiled for me, having read it beforehand. I vowed then that I'd never read something that Rufus is in, in advance ever again. (Just to give you a different opinion, Rueful!

Movies and film never seem to be as good as the book they come from. As I have said, I am one of those who likes to know how something ends, but that is unusual. Even though Adam was not in ALVH, I read it because I ordered it thinking he was in it. I probably should not have read the book because the movie was a disappointment (other than Rufus) to the book. Would have probably enjoyed the movie more in this case if I had not read the book first. So I can see how reading something may spoil the enjoyment of a film. I have Restless and plan to read it, have already read the end...ha ha.

You're right, GE2, not knowing the book before seeing the movie does have its advantages It's probably a question of your personal preferences. I like reading the book before seeing the movie, letting my imagination come up with my own "film". (And I kind of like griping about what they did wrong in the adaptation ;D ) I've read "Restless" before anyway, but I don't remember much. I'm still planning to revisit the book before the film is on.

Does it all really matter? The Producers and Directors, the people with the editing scissors all input to the final film. Read it and forget it then later enjoy working out who is responsible if it crashes or floats up to an Oscar once the kernal is set on the end product. Look at 'Those f Foolish Things' against the end product one of the funniest films ever, The exotic marigold etc etc..

Does it all really matter? Well, it's not a question of mattering but, as Kate says, of personal preference. Despite all the changes made to the book when TPOTE was filmed, enough of the original storyline remained that I still felt it was spoiled for my having read it beforehand. Wanting to know what happens/not wanting to know, they're both valid points of view. I'd just rather not! And there's always the option to (re)read it afterwards anyway!

I read the book as soon as I found out Rufus was to be in the dramatisation. The book Restless is the best book I have read for quite a while and whilst reading I could imagine Rufus playing the part of Lucas Romer. Brilliant! Also was able to imagine Hayley Atwell as Eva and Michelle Dockory as Ruth. Just hope the film is a good adaptation. William Boyd is writing the screenplay! So here's hoping! I just hope they don't cut Rufus' part as the younger Lucas too much in order to give Michael Gambon more of a role, as in the book it is only at the very end when Lucas is 'old'.
