Oh yeah! I'm definitely looking forward to this one! Not my usual choice of movie, but if it has Rufus in it, all buffed up, I won't miss it!

Fab news, Nell - thank you, and to Adina for the updates. I'm with Robela, though - it's terrific that Rufus is starring and of course I'll see it, but the story..... (Adina, you'll have to be our on-the-spot reporter during filming!! ) Added: okay, a bit more news now - additional cast: movies.yahoo.com/news/ian-mcshane-rufus-sewell-joseph-fiennes-john-hurt-200417847.html Ian McShane! John Hurt! And a bit more about Rufus's character - sounds like another baddie.... Ever since playing the good guy in Alex Proyas' Dark City, Rufus Sewell has become the go-to guy for playing really nasty villains. He'll do it yet again as part of Brett Ratner's Hercules, starring alongside Dwayne Johnson in the comic book adaptation about the Greek hero. Sewell will play Autolycus, Hercules' former trainer who ultimately betrays him, framing him for the theft of cattle. The film will have Hercules renouncing his immortality and becoming a mercenary for hire. www.punchdrunkcritics.com/2013/03/sure-shots-michael-angarano-rufus.htmlBut maybe we don't want Rufus to play Autolycus quite like this version.... www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_JCnpbnLM0This link gives a later release date - 8 August 2014 rather than 25 July. www.digitalspy.co.uk/movies/news/a467273/brett-ratners-hercules-casts-rufus-sewell.html

Awww, I love Bruce Campbell as Autolycus. But that was a (deliberately) pretty silly show. There was an article confirming the earlier date--it has to do with avoiding another big action movie opening at the same time. Paramount and MGM said that the Dwayne Johnson-starrer Hercules, originally scheduled for wide release on August 8, 2014, will now open July 25, 2014. Brett Ratner is directing the pic, which is being eyed as a franchise. The movie’s original date fell a week after the one staked out by Disney/Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy. Now Hercules has a date to itself for the time being, and comes a week after Warner Bros’ The Hobbit: There And Back Again, the final installment of that trilogy; and Fox’s sequel X-Men: Days Of Future Past.filmonic.com/release-date-for-dwayne-johnsons-hercules-moved-forward

Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson's movies aren't my faves either - but it sounds as if he has quite the supporting cast, not only Rufus but John Hurt & Ian McShane as well. Sounds very interesting. And buff Rufus - ummmm, can't wait for that one. But I agree - I want a curly haired Autolycus.

And thanks, Rueful, for the clarification about the date - I must have missed that one. (I was finding so many articles that basically said the same thing, that I must admit, I ended up skipping some - d'oh!)
