- and "John Smith" is such an everyman, anonymous name, so I wonder if Rufus's character is one of those with a secret identity? Maybe moving between both sides? Double agent? I might even have to break my golden rule and read this before I see it - it's sounding like a very complicated plot already! There is a short description of the characters of the pilot here: casting247.net/jobs/high-castle-pilot/ [OBERGRUPPENFUHRER JOHN SMITH] 40s, highly intelligent, tall, attractive, strong, he is a good father and family man with Brylcreemed hair who also happens to be an American Nazi officer. A spymaster, based in New York, he’s in charge of finding a trail to the leader of the American Resistance, the legendary “Man In The High Castle.” Knowing only that his quarry is in hiding somewhere in Colorado, the wily, duplicitous Smith has masterminded infilitration of the Resistance movement, and hopes that Joe’s cross-country trip by truck will get him a round-trip ticket to The High Castle...SERIES REGULAR I have read the book and John Smith isn't in it, that character was created for the series. Umm, it doesn't seem to be a strict adaptation, I think they used the book as a starting point and created a series. (The Dick book gives some eggs, and Ridley Scott is baking a cake with them, and Rufus is the cherry. ) seattletimes.com/ABPub/zoom/html/2024762361.html Some set photos. Without Rufus. With Alexa Davalos and Luke Kleintank and Rupert Evans and all sorts of crew members. But without Rufus. Eh, this is not nice, publicity guys, the Rooftop wants Rufus photos!!!

Sounds like an interesting character, something he can get his teeth into.
And I agree with Adina both re the cherry on the cake and the photos!

Thanks for that Adina! Thanks too for the character description. And having read it, who cares if John Smith isn't in the book
Um! Highly intelligent, wily, duplicitous, spymaster ..... Remind you of anybody? SERIES REGULAR Did I miss something ? Is this a series as opposed to a film?

for this info, Adina: If I'm not mistaken, we made a similar experience with ALVH - Rufus's character wasn't in the book either.....sounds intriguing....

No, Nell, I think this is meant to be a longer thing (maybe ten episodes and maybe more than one season - if it gets successful), the "mini" is now dropped from the name, with reason, I guess. This is an article on how Amazon thinks in general: www.columbian.com/news/2014/oct/26/amazon-aims-for-edgy-with-its-original-series/ The characters of the pilot make me think the plot will be pretty different to the book's structure. Not only Smith is added but a "Doc, a mechanic who supplies doses of Benzedrine to his truckers to keep them on the road." So they might have turned a simple visit into an endless quest. Besides, the ending of the book is "clever" enough to let as wide playground for the creators as they just want.

Longevity would be nice, wouldn't it? I thought Rufus didn't care for the series thing, though... Maybe he changed his mind. I'm sure he'll be wonderful in it.

, thanks for the pic, Nell! This really looks interesting, and I'm particularly happy that we'll get it in Germany, too. So I'll have to try out Amazon's streaming service finally ...
