for posting that intriguing interview, Nell - you were a bit faster than I And I'm pleased to say that the start of TMITHC gets a lot of attention in the German media (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Süddeutsche Zeitung, Die Zeit). Nothing special to mention, always about the book, the storyline and the main characters and perhaps Amazon.

I've pretty much just finished watching the series. And... How do I review this without giving away spoilers?! I can't; I want to discuss it with someone so badly now! But, I will say just a couple of things for now: 1. I never thought I'd sympathise with a Nazi. Not even one played by Rufus Sewell... 2. There are too many questions still hanging in the air after that ending! 3. And...when do we get series 2?

YES Mr Smith both creeps me out and reduces me to tears!! Rufus is amazing. Those eyes, that raw emotion!! I do like the way this is filmed and the incidental music choice is at times intriguing to say the least (IMHO). I have reservations about the character Marshall. A bit too wild west for me. Mind you they are in the west and it is pretty wild. Just don't feel that the actor chosen fits the part, but that's very much a personal opinion. A bit too comic book maybe. I expected him to be spitting tobacco every ten minutes or so!!! I experienced a few discrepancies (continuity etc.), but maybe that is just my lack of understanding of the situation. Perhaps these may all be ironed out with another viewing!!! Do I need an excuse? Disturbing at times, yet highly compelling viewing. Fantastic job Rufus. Bring on Season 2.

Thanks for the interview.
LOL LTM and AL. I am just on episode 5. Plan to be finished by the end of the weekend. I agree, Rufus is amazing.

I'm like Kygal - only up to episode 5. Have to work today and then a basketball game tonight. I hope to finish tomorrow. So far, it's absolutely compelling. I can't wait to see how it all plays out. LTM - I so agree with you on the character the Marshall, he was jarring, not just that he was a nasty character, but because all the other characters were such believable people and he's like a bad joke. I couldn't figure out why someone didn't just shoot him and get it over with.
The only bad thing - we got the whole thing at one go and now we're going to have to wait for season 2.

Oh good, glad someone else thinks the Marshall seems wrong!!! I love your solution to the problem Rachel. If only.
On the flip side the Japanese Trade Minister is a fantastic character.
Yes if they do produce a second series (pretty please), it's gonna be a long wait!! Oh well some things are just worth the wait.
AL, as you say, '..that ending!'
Going round for another viewing with Mr LTM now!

What a fantastic show! Well done in all respects, writing, acting, cinematography, music, etc! Rufus was amazing. Don't want to spoil anything, but he did first-rate work, especially in the second half of the series. I can see why so many reviews said he and CH Tagawa (Mr Tagomi) were the standout characters. Inspector Kido was great too. I agree that the Marshal seemed out of place--a cartoon. It's not the actor's fault, but the actions the character took were so over the top that it seemed silly that no one did anything about it. Lots of opportunities. I don't know how I'm going to wait a full year for a follow up. LOL, now I wish I'd savored it a little bit. But it's been snowing all day , so this was a welcome distraction. LOL, LTM! Did you make Mr. LTM wait elsewhere while you enjoyed your first viewing by yourself? Nell, thanks for posting that interesting interview with Rufus! I can imagine journalists do love interviewing him, since he doesn't give canned answers.

I've got 4 days off, so I'm going to watch the series again, see if there's anything I missed first time round. And, for more Obergruppenfuhrer Smith, of course. But, those subtle changes Rufus makes in his expressions, the way he can switch from calm to threatening & fierce and back again, that scene in the interrogation room with Wegener (Carsten Norgaard - another great performance in the series, I think), that scene on top of Nazi HQ with Captain Connolly (Neal Bledsoe), the VA day episode, the doctor's office...oh God, I can't pick a favourite Obergruppenfuhrer moment! I really hope they get a second series, even if Smith is in only a few episodes, because it's the most intriguing thing I've watched in a long time! And, it's so hard not talking about it in detail, when others have yet to see the whole series, so I don't spoil anything!

I agree the series was well done and acted. The Marshall being the only unbelievable character. He was a bit out there. John Smith is a complex character. Rufus was masterful. Cant wait for season 2.
AL there is a spoiler thread if you want to post anything there.

. Just . Rufus was f***ing AMAZING in this role. He simply MUST be nominated for a Golden Globe and an Emmy for this performance. But this whole show is not something I would have chosen to watch if not for Rufus. I don't go in for dystopian anything! I think I need a bit of a palate cleanser. How about some Petrucchio?!?

I feel the same way Judy. Many things I have only watched because Rufus is in it. I have always enjoyed his performance. I agree, he should be nominated for this!

I'm doubly excited about this because I do love me a good alternate history. That said, I have been a bad fangirl and haven't watched the series yet. Too much real life getting in the way. But Mr Kate will be away on Sunday night!

Managed to watch all 10 episodes of TMITHC over the weekend, WITH the husband who was equally impressed. I thought it was an amazing production and of course, as always, Rufus gave an outstanding performance, and let's hope he gets the recognition that he deserves. Certain reviews have been very favourable, and the interview with Rufus was very interesting. Thank you ladies, by the way, for posting those. I must add what a wonderful cast of actors graced this production, though I must admit, along with others who have commented, The Marshall caused me to actually say out loud " someone has just wandered off a western film set".
I really cannot praise this enough. Rufus never ceases to amaze me and this performance really shows what a superb actor he is.
Roll on series 2. Though there is going to be a bit of a wait for that of course.
