I thought this might make for an interesting topic, though I bogged down the MY Top 3 Favorite Things game with it. ;D
One of my very favorite facial expressions, because it was so genuine and filled with emotion, was the look Frank gave Daniel in front of the restaurant as Daniel was hailing and getting into the cab. I haven't seen it for many months, but I can still remember it's intensity, and rawness.

Good topic ree...
Some of my very favorites come from TOTS though it isn't necessarily one of my favorite performances.
I love the scene when they are in the house and he's telling Katherine about getting picked on in school and how it was character building... probably. Everyone gets picked on in school at some point or another, I'm just impressed that he's willing to relive it so vividly for that flash of a moment.
I also love the look on his face when they first arrive at the villa and he gets so angry with her then shuts it down. A whole world of emotions (and facial ticks) happen in about a second.

There are so many! One of my favorites is the "eyebrow wiggle" in Middlemarch, seen here: www.roofsewell.com/MM/MM26.jpgAlso, I love how angry his face can get. It's so believable! For example, when he's yelling at Tristan, after finding out that he's been with Isolde.

I will go with the look that slayed me and made me a Ruf-fan for life. His beautifully acted wounded look that plays across his face after he is called a "venal curr" by Veronica in Dangerous Beauty. That's my favorite hands down. The vulnerability and pain portrayed is subtle, yet palpable. He is sooo good at that. It is superbly followed by his stiff chin and voice breaking by hurt and wounded pride as he soon retaliates with the challenge "Perhaps the lady can do better?"

I've always kind of liked this one: and this one: and this one which is a side Rufus doesn't often show in his work:

Okay how about a couple more-- Giles at his dinner party: or Ross listening to the pitch of the guitar strings: or Frank being told to shut up:

My fave is his randy expression in Cold Comfort Farm, after he has dunked his head in the trough and looks up....................shivers up my spine to say the least!
I keep trying to insert the image I have saved in "my pictures" in Word, but I can't do it, if I can find the link to the photo on the web I will modify the post later. It's a great pic.

THey are Terrific shots, Maxx. ONe of my favs, from the few films I've seen is Dangerous Beauty, Veronica in jail, Marco looking at her through the bars pleading for her to confess to witchery or whatever , she refusing, and he saying "But I shall never see you again " in a very still moment, close up on those stricken eyes. Got a blowup of that, maybe?

Here are two. Don't know if these are specifically what you had in mind but I can certainly add it if you can describe it. The quality of my version of this DVD is very poor almost like it was made for television on video tape and not remastered for the DVD. Does anyone have the R2 version? Is it better beyond the usual colour improvement from NTSC to PAL? Just by way of comparison, the Out of the Blue shot a couple of posts above is recorded from television, converted to .avi to upload to the internet, download as an .avi in a series of unrelated bit-streams then pieced back together, converted into DVD format from PAL to NTSC and capped back to the internet. And the quality is a hundred times better than the purchased DVD of DB-- (I'll bet you were all just dying to know that.

The first is just a split second from the freeze I"m imagining...camera shot more frontal, with both eyes looking more into the camera than in this freeze.THen he walks away.Think he had finished speaking and was still.
