You definitely have the eye, Minx! They are superb. What sort of camera have you got that takes such clear and super colour pictures?

Spammage? No way girl, I love getting the chance to see those breathtaking shots! Thank you for sharing those with us. If you ever get bored with your current career you already have your next one lined up. And that castle - oh my! What's the history behind that?

You definitely have the eye, Minx! They are superb. What sort of camera have you got that takes such clear and super colour pictures? These pictures were taken with my Canon EOS 400D, which is my first venture into the world of digital SLR. The other pictures I posted, of the butterflies and Afghanistan, were taken with my Canon Powershot S2 IS. And that castle - oh my! What's the history behind that? Culzean Castle used to belong to my family until it was sold to raise death duties just after the war (not as exciting as you may think, we were semi-distant relatives of the Earl, but close enough to get a shar in the pittance that was left after the lawyers were paid). The top floor of the castle was 'given' to president Eisenhower, and he stayed there when in Scotland. The Eisenhower Apartments are now available for hire, so my brother got married in the castle at Christmas and we got to stay in the apartments. It is a beautiful castle. Much of it designed by Robert Adam. The oval staircase is a very famous example of Adam's work. This is the website for the castle www.culzeanexperience.org/Thanks everyone for being so sweet about the spammage. Minx x

Please, no apologies, Minx! Scotland is one of my favorite places ever! These are so beautiful! I agree, I probably would have found you strange standing out on the beach with a storm brewing......but I'm so glad you did!!!! LOL
And the castle is fabulous! Where is this castle exactly? We saw several while we were there, Blair, Urquahrt, Dunvegan, many others, but I don't remember this one, so I assume we didn't see it! It is really pretty and I can see why it is chosen for weddings! So you come from ancient royalty? Land Baron? What is your ancestry, woman?! LOL
Seriously, thank you so much for sharing your pictures, they are lovely!

LOL Culzean is on the West Coast of Scotland about 40 miles or so south of Ayr. My background is very mixed, but I do have two royal lines. On my father's side we are Stewarts and can trace our ancestry back to the Scottish kings (James IV) and on my mother's side we trace our line back to the Kennedy's of Culzean Castle (the Earl of Cassilis). However, all the money was gone long before I came along and my background was very bog-standard. Minx x

, how cool is that? We didn't make it to that part of Scotland. We headed to Edinburgh from the Lake District in England and made 2-3 trips out of Edinburgh.........one over to Falkirk and Stirling and seeing the battlefield of Culladen, one up to St. Andrews, then over to Dundee and Perth and up into the Grampian mountains......then one day we headed over to the Isle of Skye and visited Portree and Dunvegan. We also went to Inverness in there somewhere! The last day we drove to Glasgow and flew out of there the next morning, but didn't venture south of Glasgow. How wonderful that you can trace your family back so far! My cousins are descended from the Murray's of Blair Castle (my aunt married a Murray) so that was so cool to see that! So did you grow up entirely in Scotland? Were you raised in the area of the castle (near Ayr)? I find this all very interesting and thanks for putting up with my questions! Michelle

Michelle I grew up entirely in Scotland, on the Ayrshire coast about 50 miles or so from the castle. I didn't leave Scotland until I was 22 and went to London for work. I still have an apartment in Helensburgh, which is on the other side of the Clyde from Ayrshire, close to Loch Lomond. Minx x

Thanks, Minx! My geneology goes back to Scotland and I can't wait till we get more information back that far! We are fairly certain that our Mitchell, Shaw and Thompson lines go back to Scotland. I would love to find out just where in Scotland we came from! Who knows, our ancestors might have been neighbors...........or warring clans!
