Woo hoo, I have now officially retired! I had the first half of this last term off visiting UK and when I got home I realized I could not face going back to the toxic cesspool that is my workplace so I took the second half of term off on sick leave (thank you GP!) and put my resignation letter in. Today was officially the last day of my sick leave so tomorrow I am a lady of leisure! Not one of my managers has made any approach to me, not even an email to say good riddance (which is probably what they think!) - does that give you some feeling about the management/leadership (or lack thereof!) in our department? I have had messages from almost all the counsellors for whom I was responsible - that means much more to me than any vacuous platitudes from managers who are ineffectual, inefficient and who could not lie straight in bed!!!!! So, poorer but happier I now look forward to doing what I want to do when I want to do it! Edited to say, I have been officially retired now for a week and today I got offered a job almost too good to refuse!!!! Just 15 hours a week, quite challenging! Didnt even have to write an application, just had cup of coffee with the hirer and when can you start? I dont know what to do, I was so looking forward to those 40 free hours a week

Congratulations quoll. I'm thrilled for you. I'd love to think I might be able to retire someday but it looks highly unlikely with what is going on in the US these days.

Congratulations Quoll! It's a great feeling isn't it?
I pretty much did the same thing last year at this time but after a year of being free I'm beginning to feel a tad bored, plus all this sitting around doesn't do much for the waistline, lol! I'm currently contemplating working 2 days a week in a fun job..........finding it - well, that's another story.

I don't know about Australia or Britian but here in Canada we are all guaranteed a liveable gov't pension at 65 and having free/subsidized healthcare makes a huge difference. It is such a shame that a great rich civilized country like the US doesn't have the same. I feel for you.

Congratulations, Quoll. Enjoy your lady of leisure status...unfortunately, we poor slobs here in the U.S. have to work until we drop dead.......see "Sicko" when it comes out if you don't believe me..........................
Again, have a great retirement, now you can rent all Ru's movies at once and have yourself a ROOFEST!

Congrats, Quoll!!! Now you can do what you want! Yeah, they don't care if we die old and in squalor here in the US. You think there would be some sort of collective public shame to prevent such things hapenning in "one of the richest countries", but there isn't (not yet anyways.) So, are Canada and/or Australia acceptiong American immigrants? ;D

I'm proud of you quoll for taking care of yourself! Relax, and remember if you get too bored later on you can always use your expertise part-time somewhere you'd be appreciated. If fact..... you might even set yourself up as an online counselor! Surely some of us are screwed up enough to practice on. ;D ! everyone is being so good! I certainly expected to have a finger pointed in my direction by now.
