My family is having a big get-together with a turkey dinner and all the trimmings. Not at my house, thank goodness! I only have to take a couple of dishes. Happy Thanksgiving to all who are celebrating it!

Every year we have a tradition the day after Thanksgiving to go to our best friends' house in Pennsylvania and both families cut down our own Christmas trees. This year, however, we are actually going up early and spending our Thanksgiving Day with them so turkey and all the trimmings and good times on Thursday and still cutting down the Christmas trees hopefully on Friday!

Thursday? One meeting in the morning, one lunch time meeting and another in the afternoon. Beans on toast for tea unless it stays so darned hot in which case probably nothing because it is too hot to eat. Quaint customs you guys have!

Bah, humbug, Quoll!!! ;D Come on, admit it, don't you have some quaint customs too? I'm not familiar with Australian customs. What's your next holiday down under?
And, Terri Mac, did I hear something about snow in New York soon, or has it happened already? Are you expecting a white Thanksgiving? That would be nice, with cutting the trees and all. Have fun!

I am off the hook for turkey day again this year...I seem to have a knack for getting us invited to friends' houses. It will be a real international festival this year at our friend's house, I will be the only token American, so it should be fun watching how it turns out......
Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate (and to those who don't, have a nice day!)....
;D

Yes I know I shouldnt have a dig - we were the ones that just had a day off for a horse race. Not even a local horse race in our case, but one held 700km away!!!! Next holiday for us is Christmas where some people have turkeys and some people dont. Nothing like a roast turkey when the thermometer outside is high enough to cook the bird without benefit of an oven!!!! Hope you guys all have a good time with your turkeys anyway!

We are driving to my brother-in-law's ranch to spend a few days on the prairie. They want to do ham this year, so ham it is! They have a 3 year-old, darling little boy who makes me laugh endlessly, so it will be a grand time.
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone in Rufus-land!

You had a holiday for a horse race? Was it a national holiday?

You had a holiday for a horse race? Was it a national holiday? No, it was just our stupid local government having to replace a holiday which fell off our calendar with the new workplace reforms. It has long been a public holiday in Melbourne (not even wider Victoria) because the race is in Melbourne. So we got a Tuesday off which was really stupid because most people took a very long weekend and the hospitality industry took a real battering. We also have a holiday on Canberra Day (March), Anzac Day (25 April), Queen's Birthday (June) and Labour Day (aka 40 hour week day) (Oct) as well as the usual Xmas and Easter stuff. We are big on holidays!

So is Brazil. I'm just back from a visit , and they had a holiday last THursday and Tuesday this week, so they just bridge it and have a 6 day long weekend. As a tourist, it was kinda nice as the traffic and beaches weren't as congested as some locals left town. Happy THanksgiving anyone who's celebrating it.

It's so fun to hear all the different things people are doing. Want to trade places, Maxx? I'm going to my sister's where my little 1 1/2 yr old niece is as just cute as any ole kangaroo!
I would definitely go for the international Thanksgiving feast too.
As long as it is different than the vegan one my Dad insisted on one year. Long story, but suffice it to say--yuk! My poor daughter hardly ate a thing! I thought we'd be fine because I was told there'd be a soup (she adores soups) but it was made way to spicy for her to eat. The veggie loaf tasted fine to me, but with the way it looked (remember Uncorked?, ha ha) my dear girl wouldn't touch it!
Speaking of fun plans, my lucky duck daughter is at Disneyworld with her Dad and her sibling as we speak. Not bad, eh?
