Dogsitting for friends is as close as I come to having a dog.
The person above me read about the lower stroke incidence among people with cats or a history of cat ownership (did not hold for dog ownership, somewhat surprisingly)

I'm not the person above you, but I did read that article - I knew cats would be useful for more than just sleeping, eating and purring!
