Terrific article uke. I don't think most people realize this is happening because most people are enjoying the musicals. As a person who would rather have their thumb nails removed by force than see a musical it's been a few very dry years on B'way and many of the theatre companies and smaller houses have closed up shop since the turn of the century. Thank heaven for the WE which is less of a slave to commerce. Otherwise there would be no place for the new playwrights (or old ones) to go.

Interesting, as I remember seeing something 10 years ago about how Arthur Miller could only get his new plays produced in London, not in NYC, pretty much for the same reasons. Yeah, if ARTHUR MILLER couldn't get something on Bway, how hard does that mean it is for new playwrites to get their works seen? It'd be sad if it became difficult for new plays to be produced on the West End too.
