Can anyone give me their opinion of a British tv series called Rebus? I didn't find much about it on imdb.
I'm thinking of renting it but want to know if I should save the money for something else. Yeah. I know...I'm chicken.
Bawk!

You know, I've seen this but I can't really remember much about it. etb would be the one to ask. She's seen every Brit-everything that was ever made...

The first series had John Hannah as Rebus and is a gritty detective type drama set in Edinburgh so the accents take a bit of getting used to. Rebus is one of those maverick type detectives who ends up doing the job but getting into all sorts of trouble because he is not conventional. I enjoyed them and I like John Hannah. The latest series has another chap as Rebus and I havent seen any of them. From the pictures he looks more like I imagine Rebus to be from the books.

I like John Hannah, too, but couldn't get into this series.
The latest series has Ken Stott as Rebus - he was another maverick detective in the "Messiah" series, if anyone saw that - oh, and yet another maverick in "The Vice". He is an excellent actor (wouldn't mind seeing him on screen with Rufus), and a lot of people have said that he is more suited to the role of Rebus than John Hannah. I haven't seen him in this, so can't comment!

Sorry to let you down, Maxx, but I hadn't even heard of this show. Although, since I love detective shows (esp. Brit ones) and I like John Hannah, I don't know HOW I missed this one! Is it on BBC America? PBS? A&E?

I knew something about this sounded familiar, but it wasn't until John Hannah's name was mentioned that I remembered seeing at least a couple of the episodes. I watch British TV on both BBC America & The Biography channel, so it had to have been on one of those two. I'm almost positive I didn't watch them on the Dallas PBC. I didn't have as much problem understanding Hannah as I did some of the other actors, and I can't remember if the program was captioned or not.

I like John Hannah but I could not get into it either. Have you ever seen Hamish Macbeth? It stars Robert Carrlyle and Shirley Henderson is in it. This series is very funny, clever and entertaining.

Hamish Macbeth was fabulous! Are they showing it on BBC America over there?

I imagine they repeat it from time to time. I saw quite a few of the episodes a few years ago. I knew who Robert Carlyle was at the time, but not Shirley Henderson. (Her big brown eyes were very striking when she wore her hair shorter and medium brown) I became interested in watching anything I ran across that she was in, but this was pre-Netflix so I probably only saw a couple of her old movies. I did enjoy this series, but thought the dog much cuter than Carlyle.
